Decent breakfast. Beds were ok, not great but not a problem. WiFi in our lower room was just bad. Good restaurant for dinner meals. Parking is unfortunately limited.

Posizione super comoda, accanto all'Università e all'orto botanico. Camera accogliente e pulitissima, struttura davvero molto bella. Piccolo aperitivo molto gradito all'arrivo. Il roof top ha una meravigliosa vista sulla città. Se ripasserò a Coimbra, mi fermerò nuovamente qui senza ombra di dubbio.

Sapientia Boutique Hotel was a fantastic base for exploring Coimbra. The location can't be beat — just a short walk to the University of Coimbra and the stunning Biblioteca Joanina (Joanina Library), one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. Being so close made it easy to visit early before the crowds arrived.
Our room was a real highlight — it had its own small kitchen and living room area, with the bed situated up a few steps on a separate level. It felt more like a little apartment than a standard hotel room, and gave us a lot more space and privacy than we expected.
The rooftop view of the city was incredible, especially at sunset — you get this sweeping view over Coimbra's rooftops and the university up on the hill. Great spot to unwind with a glass of wine after a day of sightseeing.
One must-do while you're in town: head to àCapella for an evening of Fado. It's a beautifully atmospheric 14th-century chapel turned Fado house, and the music was hauntingly beautiful — a truly special Coimbra tradition (Fado here has its own distinct style from Lisbon's, tied to the university students). Well worth booking a table.
Between the location, the unique room layout, and that rooftop view, Sapientia Boutique Hotel made our stay in Coimbra memorable. Highly recommend for anyone visiting this beautiful university city.

Modern, Nice design, perfect location to visit the cathedral, very friendly staff
Our room was on the ground floor - we reserved a loft (studio) to enjoy a nice space but it faced the restaurant’s terrasse and two streets, which meant we had zero privacy and had to keep the blinds closed at all times (and be in the dark)- otherwise people would just see everything in our room. Whoever designed this room made an obvious and big mistake. It shouldn’t be offered for 200+ euros/night. The problem can be fixed with a reflective film on the windows.
