Had a brilliant stay at the village hotel the room was absolutely beautiful and couldn’t fault a thing! The food was amazing and the staff especially Jimmy are thoughtful and lovely
We stayed for one night as a chance to catch up with friends, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. The entertainment was outstanding, with a fantastic mix of 80s, 90s, and 2000s music that created a fun and lively atmosphere throughout the evening. The disco was a real highlight and had everyone up dancing and enjoying themselves.
Our room was spacious, comfortable, and spotlessly clean, providing everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The breakfast selection was excellent, with plenty of choice and high-quality food to start the day.
The leisure facilities were superb. We made full use of the pool, sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi, all of which were well maintained and perfect for unwinding. The combination of great entertainment, comfortable accommodation, delicious breakfast, and excellent spa facilities made for a truly enjoyable break.
We would definitely return and highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a fun and relaxing getaway.
Very friendly staff, very clean and nice food. The bed is very comfortable and the shower is excellent!
Great night at the 80’s 90’s and 00’s night. Amazing bar staff and live entertainment. Great night sleep and a nice dip in the pool. Very attentive staff, no notes
Friendly and efficient booking in process
The bar shut earlier than expected but this did not affect my stay at all
Firstly the location of the hotel is perfect, a 5 minute drive from the harbour at Port Solent and only an easy 10 minutes into Gunwarf Quays to satisfy your shopping needs. The staff were exceptional, the room was clean, today and felt like it should cost a lot more then as we were about to leave we filled our stomachs on the unbelievably good unlimited breakfast. It is the only hotel we consider staying at when we visit Portsmouth again.
The room wasn't very large, but it had a desk with a swivel chair. We also found an ironing board and iron.
The bed was large and extremely comfortable.
The bathroom was spacious with smart glass walls. The opaque version is prarically invisible. The shower was really large and very functional. Air conditioning and free parking.
On the ground floor, there is a pub and a Starbucks.
There also are a gym and a pool, but we didn't use them.
None
Everything was fantastic bar the breakfast. It was okay at best. The sausages were very cheap and scrambled eggs were pretty rubbery and watery. Overall it wasn't terrible. I enjoyed my stay the room was impressive and the bed was fantastic !
Too much technology, created a rather impersonal feel. One consequence is the staff seem to be disengaged, not customer focussed.
Long Weekend Stay Review
We booked a last-minute long weekend stay and the hotel accommodated us well. The atmosphere in the Sports & Grill bar was lively and energetic every evening, with friendly staff who were always willing to help.
The hotel is very modern, with most services accessed by scanning QR codes on your phone. Check-in is largely self-service via terminals in the foyer, with reception staff available if needed. There's also a busy Starbucks on-site and Sky TV in the rooms.
Our room was on the 5th floor overlooking the surrounding area and part of the car park. We booked a Club Room, which wasn't noticeably larger than standard rooms but did include extra amenities. At 161 sq ft, the room felt quite compact, especially when eating meals in-room, as there was only enough desk space for one person to comfortably dine.
The ensuite was excellent. The walk-in shower featured powerful rainfall and handheld shower options, plenty of hot water. As a physically disabled guest travelling with my autistic partner, these facilities were much appreciated.
The leisure facilities included a large swimming pool, two swimming lanes, hot tub, steam room, Finnish sauna, cold plunge pool, communal showers, and disabled changing rooms. Lockers operate using a magnetic wristband system, and towels are collected from reception before entering. The hot tub was wonderfully warm, although the swimming pool itself felt more like a leisure centre temperature and was too cold for my liking.
A special mention goes to Callum and Jo, who were exceptionally understanding. The Sports & Grill area can be very loud, busy, and party-like, with music and lots of activity. My autistic partner found the environment overwhelming, so both staff members kindly waived the room service charge to allow us to dine comfortably in our room.
Unfortunately, the beds were extremely firm, and despite additional pillows and bedding, neither of us slept particularly well.
Areas for Improvement
The biggest issue throughout our stay was the lack of signage. While the hotel is visually impressive, there are very few directions explaining where things are or how facilities operate.
On arrival, it wasn't immediately clear whether guests should check themselves in or speak to staff. The reception area could benefit from clearer guidance and a more proactive welcome for arriving guests.
The same problem existed within the spa facilities. There were no clear instructions explaining where towels were collected, how the lockers worked, or the process for accessing the facilities. As a disabled guest, I would have struggled considerably had my partner not been able to walk back and forth seeking information.
There was also no information displayed regarding pool, hot tub, or plunge pool temperatures. The only visible notice encouraged guests to shower before entering the pool.
The hotel promotes itself as disability-friendly, and there are designated Blue Badge parking spaces close to the entrance. Accessible rooms include grab rails, pull cords, and adapted showers. However, the rooms are relatively small, and wheelchair users may find manoeuvring around the bed challenging due to limited space.
The hotel does have lifts, and disabled guests may wish to request a room close to them when booking, as all routes eventually lead down to the Sports & Grill area.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay thanks to the helpful staff, modern facilities, and excellent accessible shower facilities. However, clearer signage, better guest guidance, softer beds and some improvements to accessibility within the rooms would significantly improve the experience.
I absolutely loved that the staff were very understanding. My brother was seriously ill in hospital and he joked he would love some sausages. The next morning at breakfast I asked if a could take a couple for him. A couple of the staff gave me a container to take him two, which I thought may have made him laugh. Unfortunately, he never got to see them as he was dying when we got to the hospital and died a couple of hours later. Nevertheless, the thoughtfulness of the staff could not have been more appreciated at such a time and I truly want to thank them from the bottom of my heart . It's nice to know there are still compassionate people around xx
How could I dislike anything with such kindness.
Easy parking and nice atmosphere
Our room was next to stairs. The cleaner was vacuuming them, banging the vacuum against the metal stairs and singing at the top of his voice at 00:30!!!
I had ordered the steak tonight, it was cold, I got 3 tiny mushrooms, my chips were like the bottom of the bag chips. I ordered Béarnaise sauce and when it came out it wasn’t Béarnaise, it was packet Hollindaise. The Head chef said that’s how village hotel makes Béarnaise, I returned it and wasn’t offered a refund. I will never eat here again, 4 star maybe 2 star
A good hotel - clearly the gym and health club is such a big part of this place that its not so much a hotel, as a gym with a few rooms added on. (Which is I understand the genesis of the brand. Nothing wrong with that.)
In fact, if you are into your fitness, then not only is there a very good gym, pool, with classes going on, but also its right next to the open land by the lake which has a running circuit with exercise machines (a trim trail), but also has a Parkrun here - if your a Parkrun tourist then this hotel is a perfect location, and you can do the run, get back, shower, and be in plenty of time to check-out. (If you've not discovered Parkruns yet - do. Go and enjoy)
In this event I didn't in fact use the gym, as I was only here for one night and was getting up to do the Parkrun.
The whole place is modern and trendy. Only - its trying a bit too hard to be trendy. The funny signage and labels on everything - its clearly been thought up by a corporate branding team. It comes across as your parents using teenager language, or dare I generate an image - a politician trying to be 'cool'.
The rooms are nice - but just a little small. They've clearly been designed with a minimum requirement in mind. They have all the things (coffee machine, ironing board, TV) that make them seem 'luxury', but having a bit of space to move around is also a luxury requirement. It also seems odd that there's no outside window that isn't in the bathroom (might not be the case for all rooms of course). Clearly they expect trendy people to be watching the TV, not looking out of the window.
Downstairs there's a sports bag dominated by big screens, and a Starbucks. Its all fine.
An upgrade to a 'club' room is nothing to write home about. The room is the same but you get a pod coffee machine and a 'club' chocolate bar - only one mind you. There's an argument waiting if you're a couple. Apparently you also get a bottle of water (wow - the generosity!) although in our case it appeared to have evaporated, or perhaps someone forgot.
Breakfast - we didn't have here, but it looked like a standard hotel buffet. I'm sure it would be good.
I'd be happy to stay here again, and Village Hotels generally as I expect they're all similar - but equally I might also go somewhere else if I wanted somewhere slightly more traditional.
