The Bartizan

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of our tour of Sri Lanka. This hotel was a little oasis of calm and tranquility! Definitely one of our favourites on our trip. The service and friendliness of the staff were second to none. The breakfasts were delicious and the afternoon tea an added treat. The location was perfect for exploring GalIe Fort. I would definitely recommend!

Oh my goodness where do I start, absolutely stunning hotel, in a fantastic position within the fort.
Beautifully designed rooms and lovely balcony.
Very comfortable bed, superb shower, room spotlessly clean and when we arrived they had the A/C on and a wax melt burning in the room which smelt wonderful.
Great view from the balcony and roof terrace over the fort wall to the sea. Perfect to watch the sunset.
Really lovely and friendly staff, we will definitely come back as this is 5* accommodation with character.

Loved our 3 night stay in this charming historic hotel located on the west side of the Fort. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The breakfast was healthy and generous. Beds were comfortable and room was cool and clean. Sunset view from rooftop was amazing.

We visited this hotel in July this year. The location of the hotel within the walls of the city is outstanding, it allows you to be in the city at the start and end of the the day and see the citizens going about their everyday life. The staff are outstanding, breakfast is excellent and personal touches like a birthday cake for my wife and the manager lending a book on the city to read made the stay my favorite in Sri Lanka. It is a fabulous experience to stay in the Bartizan

We stayed for two nights in July 2025 and LOVED this charming hotel. It has about 10 rooms and it's an old, restored building with a lot of charm. The checkin process was easy, and the entire time we were there, the staff was always attentive and asking if everything was okay. They were all very warm and kind to us. The staff helped us with recommendations for things to do, etc. The room we booked was large enough for a family of four, which is not easy in Sri Lanka to find. (I don't why but it's not easy to find a hotel for four people/two queen beds). Anyways, I was very happy to find this hotel, and were very comfortable. There was a fridge, tea/coffee, bottled water, air conditioning, free wifi, etc. I noted there was no TV in our room, but I really didn't mind. We had a balcony and could hear and see the ocean. The view was not a full view, as there was some obstruction, but I still enjoyed the view and location so much. The breakfast was really nice: fresh fruit, toast, eggs, juice, coffee, etc. They even had an option to select kiri bath, which is one of my favorites! I really want to say thank you for all the attention and kindness the staff showed us during our time here.

This is a nice place to stay in Galle, centrally located for restaurants, shopping and sights, with sunset views in the evening.

The Bartizan's rooms were spacious and clean. The bathroom was gorgeous. The breakfast was generous, and we were given a packed breakfast on the day we left early. The staff were very attentive. It is located on the coast and walkable to loads of shops and restaurants. It was our favourite hotel in the two weeks we spent in Sri Lanka.

Situated in the heart of Fort Galle this small boutique hotel is housed in an old Dutch colonial building. Andrew is a gracious host who takes time to get to know his guests ensuring their stay is comfortable and perfect . The friendly team are efficient and extremely helpful. The rooftop is perfect for watching sunsets, delicious breakfast are served in the courtyard or balcony if you’re in an up stairs room. Spotlessly clean, thoughtful design cannot find fault. Thank you Andrew and your team for making my stay delightfully memorable

My Husband and I stayed here along with my Daughter and Granddaughter. “Everything about this property is superb! The staff, the warm hospitality, they were like family!! Excellent location, rooms, breakfast - everything is excellent. From the time of arrival we were greeted by staff and security guard Ranjith, to our departure, we were waited on every moment. We couldn't have asked for more! Big thank you to - GM Andrew Milhuisen, Thank you for all you did during our stay, really appreciate it!

The hotel has character and can't beat the location within the Fort. The room we had is West facing, so great sunset from the room and the rooftop area, but conversely the rooms get hot and the a/c in the room (we had Family Suite, 1 Bedroom, Ocean View, Oceanfront) just didn't seem to do the job. The hotel is expensive given the facilities are limited. Staff are welcoming supportive and friendly. We did end up taking our own suitcases downstairs when we left.
Would recommend if it fits in your budget, but maybe just 1-2 nights if you are a family looking for more comfort on an extended stay.

You are sheer magic! I come to Galle Fort and the main reason is to be with you. You are an experience that I could not forget from the time I first came 2yrs ago and one night with you wasn’t enough. Thus, I came to you again and will again and again every time I visit Srilanka. If anyone wants to experience peak colonial era energy and vibes they must take refuge within your warm embrace in the avatar of your amazing hospitality, smiling staffs and most importantly the love that exudes from each of the stay . It is truly magical how you take one back to a different time. Each nook and cranny whispers a story of its own. In the bustling heart of the Peddler’s street you are a coveted space that gave so much peace to a hustler like me who earns your presence in difficult days. Thank you ❤️

The staff went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable. They accommodated our early travel schedule by packing us a breakfast to-go on the first day and served breakfast on our balcony the next.

Right from the start, the staff was really friendly specially the security uncle at the door and they did everything to make the stay a memorable one, breakfast provided was really good. Some may find the room a bit small but we really liked it and enjoyed our stay at bartizan.

The building is beautiful. Stunning ambience at night with the subtle music and festoon lighting. The room was nice clean and the service from all of the staff was amazing - they were so eager to help and we felt very special. Highly recommend 10/10!

Great location- close to the coast so there is a nice breeze and on edge of the fort so not too busy. A very pretty courtyard and well appointed rooms. Staff were very attentive and helpful. Will definitely recommend.

This historic hotel is perfectly located with in the fort , right on the wall , Close to restaurants and cafes. Small rooms , very well appointed and restored to perfection, Really helpful staff with overall great service. Extensive large breakfast. You really get the feeling of being in a special historic place -highly recommended.

A lovely and atmospheric property. We were upgraded to a large room with a terrace and a sea view which was appreciated.The room was extremely comfortable with a complimentary mini bar. We loved the roof terrace with its great view over the fort and the sea. Although there is no pool, a small, safe beach is just steps away with beach towels provided by the hotel.

I loved this hotel. It was old with lots of charm and located just across the street from the fort wall. It was next to Pedler Street with great shopping. Breakfast was really good with an amazing array of fruit. Overall, this is a great hotel.
