I absolutely loved how hospitable the cleaning staff was. I think the name of the cleaning lady I did managed to note was Nosipho/Nozipho.
There was an administrative error between bookings.com and Sun 1. This resulted in 2 random men being given the key card to my room and finding me inside when they opened the door.The lady who was then sent to my room (Lesego; based on the name tag she had on her shirt) to investigate the occurrence; then proceeded to try and place the liability for the error and the potential dire consequences that could’ve resulted from it on me. What was said to me in this regard was that bookings.com and Sun 1 are not interlinked and even though I sent a message that was acknowledged, responded to and undersigned (Sun 1 Team),the Sun 1 Team was unaware of my booking and of that communication. And that after communicating online with the sun 1 team I should also come and do it in person in order for my communications with them to actually be noted.
Her address came with a slight passive aggressiveness in her tone. It was accusatory and had an unwillingness to acknowledge the context I was trying to explain to her even when I showed her confirmation. Which I found to be unfair, unwarranted and I did not appreciate it given the circumstances.
The interaction ended inconclusively. No further clarity on the situation, no accountability or apologies were tendered since the moment the lady came to address me at my room door.
I’m both perplexed and concerned by the situation to this very moment because
why was reception unaware that room 123 was occupied from 11:00 - 20:00? (20:00 being the time that the male guests accessed my room). Why was the team at Sun 1 unaware for the whole day that the guest in room 123 didn’t check out?
And furthermore; why did the cleaning lady knock on my door and hospitably ask if I wanted cleaning if the team was in actual fact unaware that a guest was still occupying room 123?
As a first time Sun 1 Bloemfontein guest this occurrence and how it was handled totally marred my perception of Sun1. Unrelated, but the sheets in the bunk were also torn.

The hotel was perfectly adequate for what we needed. It is clearly aimed at providing affordable accommodation, it was clean, neat and quiet. The staff were friendly and helpful. The complimentary coffee and tea downstairs were a really nice touch. The hotel is also conveniently situated close to shopping malls and restaurants, which made getting around very easy. Overall, a good option for simple, clean and affordable accommodation.
The room wasn’t particularly comfortable or homely, and the overall atmosphere was a little dull. However, this is a budget hotel and it isn’t advertised as a luxury or cosy stay, so my expectations were realistic. The soundproofing could also be improved, as we could clearly hear the neighbours showering early in the morning.
