Pros:

The location was fabulous- right on the promenade and so a stone's throw from the waterfront, restaurants, cafes and ferry stop. We booked one of the rooms with a larger terrace (rather than balcony) and we were so glad we did- the views were spectacular and it was a fantastic place to sit and enjoy the scenery/ to people watch etc. The terrace was very well furnished with a seating area, umbrella and deckchairs. Our room was compact (we were two adults and a child, so we were making use of the pull down bed), but it had all we needed, was very clean and comfortable, and proved to be a perfect base for exploring. The staff were all very helpful and friendly, particularly the reception staff checking us in, who provided lots of helpful information, and the older gentleman (sorry- we did not catch his name)- serving breakfast each morning and who always made sure we had plenty of tea and coffee! The selection at breakfast was good and it was lovely to be able to sit out on the promenade to eat. We also ate in the restaurant one evening and the food again was lovely. We would definitely stay again.

Cons:

It is perhaps a small thing but it would have been helpful to have been advised in advance (e.g. in pre-check in information or a message) that it was possible to drive up to the hotel to drop luggage off, despite the electric bollards at the entrance to the pedestrianised area. When we arrived in Ascona by car we followed the sat nav and then assumed when we reached the bollards that we would not be able to proceed closer to the hotel. However, on pulling over and telephoning the hotel to ask for advice on the closest car park to use, we were then advised that we could drive through the bollards by using the electronic screen attached to call the hotel and request access. It would have been a bit less stressful to have known this in advance as by this point we'd driven around a few times in the one way system trying to figure out where we could park that wasn't too far from the hotel to have to drag our luggage in the heat!
