Pros:

A comfortable stay and amazing view. Friendly staff.

Cons:

The balconies are not private whatsoever, the brick dividers between them are small and you look next to you and your neighbour is there. Good for groups I guess.
The breakfast was a bit disappointing, the haggis (I'm assuming it was haggis) was pure slop. Everything else was okay.
and the toilet seat was broken in our room. Other than that it was good, The staff were friendly.

Relaxed stay
Pros:

Excellent two days spent at the Fernhill from the welcome and cup of very much needed coffee on arrival (Thank You !).Staff were attentive throughout but not intrusive. Breakfast was a good selection and cooked breakfast was piping hot .Also lots of places in the hotel to go just to chill and enjoy the views .Room was spotless and bed comfortable with plenty hot water on demand. My only complaint is I didn't get to stay long enough lol

Do not take an annex room
Pros:

We were four friends on a golfing trip to the Portpatrick area and had 3 nights at this hotel. Although our friend’s room was reasonable, unfortunately our room in the Annex was dreadful ( even though we were paying the same money) There was an old fusty smell in the room, the furniture was old and stained, the paint on the woodwork was peeling and there was a patch on the ceiling. The bathroom was a total disgrace, for the price we paid. You could hardly use the WC because it was right up against the wash hand basin. The shower must be been 20 years old and was small with a plastic curtain. There was no attempt to clean or freshen the room over the 3 nights we stayed. Bins weren’t emptied, towels were damp, tea and coffee etc wasn’t replaced. It was really poor. My advice to anyone using the hotel is Don’t accept an annex room.
Staff were pleasant and the breakfast was good but the room desperately needed a major overhaul.
Very disappointed.

Don’t be afraid to visit this hotel as a non resident for food or stunning views with a drink.
Pros:

We stayed in this hotel in March, had a very enjoyable stay and, we thought the food was excellent. Because of this we walked up yesterday with friends to show them the view from the hotel and we asked if non residents could have lunch. The lovely Hungarian chap who also took great care of us in March, checked for us that the kitchen was still open for lunch as we were quite near the 2pm finish. It was, he set us up a table at the window and let us know we could choose from the à la carte menu or if we preferred, the kitchen would make us sandwiches if we just wanted a light bite. Considering we were so close to end of lunch service and we were the only ones in the dining room, this is perfect customer service as is the attentiveness of the staff. We’ve recently bought a static caravan in Portpatrick and I have no doubt we will bring a steady stream of friends and family to this Hotel.

Location and view

Cons:

The room was damp and musty especially the bathroom and there was no blind by the entrance for privacy without drawing the curtain . Also a lot of noise from other guests the seating area outside the room.
