My husband and I visit Julian at least once a year and always stay in Gold Rush hotel. It is a beautiful place in the town center, full of "old charm" with shared fireplace room/library and living room/dining room with many books and board games to play on a rainy day. We love it there and highly recommend to everyone who might be interested in feeling the good old times. A special mention goes to breakfast - which is fantastic, and totally matching the hotel's very unique ambience.
Nothing really. If anyone needs a TV, that is not a place for you (and we do not!)
We liked the hospitality of the employees. They were great. Konnie at the front desk and Dicky the night shift manager. Very polite and informative. We appreciate the attention they gave us!
We didn't the fact we only stayed one night. We plan on spending more time next visit and referring our family members to check this place out. Will plan on a longer stay next time!
We love Julian Gold Rush Hotel and visit a few times a year. We even give gift certificates every year to our children and their spouses for a weekend getaway.
The staff is always so pleasant and wonderful. The rooms are very clean. The hotel is very accommodating.
We love the location. We love the history behind the hotel and we also love to sit on the porch and people watch when we go.
It would be nice if they change up the breakfast menu a little more frequently. It has been the same for several years that we have been going.
It would be nice to have a little bit more variety.
The locaiton was unbeatable right on the main street of Julian. The hotel was very charming, clean and comfortable and the breakfast was delicious.
It would have been nice if there wa s TV in the room.
Everyone and everything
I was told $253 TOTAL by booking .com
Julian hotel charged me $273!!
Absolutely delicious healthy breakfast!
Lemonade available in afternoon to cool down and enjoy on veranda.
El ambiente y la hospitalidad!!
No haber podido quedarme más tiempo
It was a historic property furnished with appropriate gold rush era furniture, so we were surrounded by interesting objects. The staff members were amazing and worked hard to provide a great experience. Breakfast was delicious! They recreated life of the times by setting out games in the parlor for entertainment. Fun! The town itself is so-so, mostly a bunch of gift shops surrounded by bakeries. So it was kind of interesting but very tiny.
The bed in our room (#10) was extremely tall. I don’t know why any hotel would do this. We almost had to leave because I could not get onto the bed. I am 5’3” tall, and the bed came up to my belly button. Fortunately, we found a small wooden step in the tiny closet
and by putting my own yoga step on top of it, I was able to make my way up. It was extremely awkward. There was basically no space for us in that room. No room for suitcases, one rickety chair that we had to use to hold a suitcase, and only a little room in the bathroom. We nearly cut our stay short because we were so uncomfortable.
The pillows were atrocious—hard and flat.
Anyone thinking of staying here should be aware that there are lots of stairs. And rumor has it that it is haunted. Diary entries from others (book in the dresser) indicate that some people felt the haunting. We did not.
It was quaint, cozy and clean. They have tons of games set out in the parlor/dining room and we had fun paying cribbage with another guest. There are no TVs in the rooms so guests are encouraged to enjoy their time spent in the bed and belreakfast hotel. The homemade breakfast in the morning was fabulous! The staff made every guest feel special as they served us. It's in the center of town so was easy to walk to a number of restaurants for dinner.
We loved everything about our stay
The history, unique charm, good books and games, friendly staff.
Nothing.
