Great central location in Moretonhampstead .We visited for carnival and were in the thick of the action Lovely old hotel that has had some updating - much ‘nicer’ in terms comfort / decor than we remember from 20 years ago! A proper hotel not bland corporate and locals are still very welcome . Staff friendly , bed comfy and we were grateful for fan supplied as it was still warm at night ( unusually in our memory for time of year).Parking in town carparks was straightforward too. Enjoyed breakfast , a leisurely experience .
Not much choice on evening menu for vegetarians ( moving mountains burger - no thank you. ) That aside all the food that we saw come out the kitchen looked lovely. Luckily I have started eating fish again so I was ok- ( my other fallback is salad snd chips which was also available)I had the bream , market fish which was excellent. Carnivores are well catered for so partener was very happy
Room and general hotel pleasant
Lack of communication from staff who often appeared disinterested, at times rude. One lovely lady who cleaned our room and was most helpful and interactive.
Food disorganized and took far too long to arrive. Half an hour to be given a menu. Further hour for food to arrive even though the dining room was not busy. Two of our meals were not to standard and we ended up getting reimbursement (overcooked meat and undercooked, almost raw, veggies.
The staff was absolutely wonderful and kind, and we were immediately made to feel extremely welcome. We could use the lounge, the bar, the dining area, the pool table if we wanted. It felt like visiting friends; some place where you are allowed to feel like home after travels. We dined in because we felt we could have a nice evening at the hotel (rather than the need to find a restaurant elsewhere), which we did! The hotel's interior is lovely and well cared for. Our room was large and the beds very comfortable. A lovely little tea collection in the room with homemade shortbreak cookies. Breakfast was home-cooked. Everything was well arranged and the check-in/check-out process easy. I really appreciate that this hotel is not exceedingly expensive; this was certainly worth it.
Add to say that this was a last-minute booking for us. We had been travelling to different places and let down by some of the hotels. I had been trying to find *this* :) Different people are looking for different things, or even during different trips. If you are looking for a place where you feel welcome and cared for, but without the sometimes a bit overbearing feeling of staying in a home (B&B), then this is for you.

A very pleasant stay at the White Hart. The room was well decorated, comfortable and had everything I needed. Breakfast was good, and the staff were all friendly and welcoming. The hotel has a lovely, relaxed feel and is a great base for exploring Moretonhampstead and Dartmoor.
This place is one of my favourites. The location is ideal for traveling anywhere on the moor, to walk etc. And the town has some original shops, craftspeople and art to keep your attention whilst strolling. Bertos restaurant is a very pleasant experience as is the Hippo Cafe.
The hotel itself: staff are polite and extremely helpful and will go out of their way to help you. There are lots of choices for breakfast, including seating. The restaurant serves delicious meals and the bar serves some excellent drinks. The ambience is pleasant as it should be and the overall feel is of a hotel, which I like. So the whole experience is enjoyable.
The new bedside lamps in room 3 are too low and shine in your eyes rather than shedding light to read etc. It is a minor detail.
The room was very comfortable. The bed was comfortable. It was clean and well catered for. The location was absolutely great and it was easy for us to find parking nearby.
The check-in process was a bit lengthy. They had system issue and needed to correct an error, and also had a recent change of policy for requiring physical bank card for check in (which wasn't included in the booking information). The breakfast was lovely, but there weren't enough staff, and the existing staff were rushed off their feet. We had to wait a long while for someone to take our order for the breakfast. The stay was more akin to B&B rather than Hotel.
Very friendly traditional hotel. Food well above average.
Had a breakfast inclusive rate and hotel happily extended hours to 11am on day when I had early appointment. Great view from good sized room.
Some noise from other guests in hotel/pub courtyard thru to around 1130.
Good location and quiet
Rooms can do with updating
We visited with our dog who was treated as a valued guest
Beers in the bar!
All was great
Good choice of food on the restaurant menu and for breakfast. Comfortable environment. Room was not overly warm in this heatwave!

Relaxed friendly hotel, the staff were brilliant and loved the dog package
Surcharge of £10 per dog wasn’t clearly advertised at booking
Great place, good rooms, great breakfast.
Nothing.
Very clean, comfortable and had a lovely ambience.
Parking was paid during the day, but a reasonable price and only a short walk away
