The pool and slide was amazing and also the space of the suite
The lady on the reception was rude
The pool and the restaurant!

Gute Lage, sehr freundlicher shuttle service zum Airport.
The receptionist that welcomed us was not really welcoming. We were in touch with the same person several times, but never got any smile from that person. I definately expect a different behaviour when working in a recpetion and welcoming new clients. There is no 2nd chance for a first impression. That person made us not felt welcome in the hotel.
Location
The bathroom smelled like urine. It was clean but they need to use a deodorizer.
Liked the location & the beds
Our lights & outlets kept going off in the room multiple times. Also our pull out bed had no sheets, blankets or pillows for it. Usually all the Holiday Inns I go to they have everything in a closet or something. It was a nice hotel, just those things were an inconvenience.
My stay at Holiday Inn Express & Suites Calgary Airport Trail NE was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever encountered.
My room had been fully prepaid through Booking.com. Upon arriving in Calgary, I discovered that I had lost my physical bank cards. Although I was able to provide valid photo identification and demonstrate access to sufficient funds via Apple Pay, the hotel maintained that a physical bank card was required to secure the CAD $150 deposit.
A kind fellow guest offered to pay the deposit on my behalf, which the hotel accepted. I was then issued a room key, leading me to reasonably believe that I had successfully checked in.
At approximately 10:30 p.m., I was suddenly informed that I had to leave the hotel. The explanation changed several times, leaving me confused and distressed. Staff later acknowledged that issuing my room key before completing all check-in requirements had been their mistake, yet I was the one forced to deal with the consequences.
The police were called and escorted me from the hotel to Calgary International Airport. The attending officers themselves questioned how the situation had been handled and could not understand why a guest who had already been issued a room key was being removed. As a solo female traveller in a foreign country, being left without accommodation late at night was frightening, humiliating, and entirely avoidable. I then spent almost 25 hours waiting at the airport until my flight home.
After returning to the UK, I contacted the hotel manager hoping for an explanation, an apology, or some form of accountability. Instead, my concerns were dismissed, and no meaningful action was taken. The lack of empathy shown after such a distressing experience was almost as disappointing as the incident itself.
I appreciate that hotels have policies regarding security deposits, but those policies should be applied consistently, fairly, and with common sense. Once I had been issued a room key, I had every reason to believe that I had been checked in correctly. The way this situation was handled fell far below the standard I would expect from an IHG property.
I would strongly encourage the hotel to review its procedures, staff training, and approach to customer care. No solo traveller should find themselves stranded late at night because of mistakes made by hotel staff.
