Stayed two nights at Thomas Wright House while visiting Kynren nearby. Warm welcome, quick check-in, and a spotless, comfy room with nice little touches. Drinks in the garden before dinner, which was outstanding in both quality and value, with very generous portions. Staff were friendly, efficient and genuinely caring throughout our stay.
Slept well and enjoyed one of the best full English breakfasts we’ve ever had. After a full day at Kynren, we came back late and were still warmly greeted. Another great breakfast before checkout left us amazed at the value for money and fair bar prices.
It’s not flashy, but it’s homely, incredibly friendly and immaculately clean. We highly recommend Thomas Wright House and will be back.

It was a lovely break so we could continue our day around the area.
Thankfully this person from the restaurant came to our rescue and let us into the room late at night.
We arrived late and didn’t know how to check in when you arrived late and no reception is there anymore. I recommend asking for instructions if you plan to arrive after 8-9pm as we panicked a little.
Staff at breakfast didn’t know about vegan options and it was difficult. They didn’t had milk alternatives, but we still managed. If you bring a cartoon of your own milk, you can eat some of the cereals.
Breakfast area was confusing to find, there was an event the day before and they used the area, so all the signs pointed to the wrong place.

We were walking the Way of Life Pilgrim Route to Durham and Thomas Wright House was the perfect stop over . The restaurant wasn’t open in the evening but we enjoyed a lovely breakfast and appreciated the friendly atmosphere with everyone watching the England game .
It’s a good place and good value. We’ve stayed there several times. Friendly, warm reception every time.
One or two maintenance issues require attention, but these didn’t impact on the quality of our stay. We fed back verbally upon check out to ensure the next guests have a better experience.

The food for both dinner and breakfast was delicious with generous portions, with plenty of gluten intolerant options and alternatives they could do.
