Good service, excellent food and staff very attentive.
Room was immaculate, every need you may have plus extras had been thought about.
We both had fillet steak via room service, steak was cooked to perfection and it was all good quality ingredient’s.
Great stay
Gorgeous stay. Staff were Brilliant, very helpful. The room was clean, spacious & the bed & pillows were comfy. Even get your own sauna ! Garden & hot tub was spot on. Breakfast was beautiful and even get it brought to your room. And to top it off for a complimentary bottle of Prosecco in your fridge aswell as fresh water & tea & coffee making facilities. We will definitely be back & make use of the beautiful surroundings. Thank you so much. Very beautiful thing you have got here. Well done ! X
Couldn’t fault it.
The location was OUTSTANDING for exploring the Durham area. The bathroom was great: good water pressure, nice shower, good towels, etc. The ladies working there were all very nice. There's a room that has a sliding glass door out to a garden that we highly recommend rather than the Phoenix Room that we stayed in. Breakfast was adequate, although the same 3 muffins were in the case every morning and they ran out of yogurt quickly, The fruit selection were little fruit cups like you put in a kid's lunchbox. The cooked breakfast was fine. TV and WiFi worked fine and there was plenty of parking.
We booked the Phoenix Suite, thinking the jetted tub would come in handy after a LONG day of hiking, climbing castle stairs and steep hillsides. We never used it once. The rooms were SO humid, hot and stuffy we didn't dare fill a tub with hot water. Even the shower overwhelmed the rooms. There was only one, tiny transom window in the room next to the bedroom that provided no relief whatsoever and only added to the issue when somebody was out there smoking every evening and our rooms smelled like an ashtray. There was a fan on each side at the head of the bed but nobody wants a fan blowing right in your face all night. I don't think we slept more than a couple hours each night we were there and got up sweat-soaked every morning. Aside from the breakfast crew, we saw no staff at any other time of the day,

I’m torn with this review. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable, the staff were very pleasant and the breakfast was god
We booked it the same day we wanted it, and we always look for a bar and a restaurant on site, so we can unwind after a day of travel. We booked it, and after that got an email to say that the bar closed at 5, and the restaurant was closed 3 days a week including the day we arrived. The email suggested a few alternatives which were only accessible by driving, so a drink was out the question. Nothing within walking distance at all for a meal or a drink. And of course we couldn’t cancel without losing the full payment. I was really annoyed as there was nothing on booking .com to warn us of this. Another option given was to order a takeaway! If I wanted a take away I would have stayed at home. . Like I say, I am torn with this review as the board and staff were good, but have the decency to at least warn us up front. If I had known that I wouldn’t have booked it on that night.
The staff! Every member of staff was polite, friendly, and genuinely happy in their work from the minute we walked in the door, till we left literally! The room was lovely, spotlessly clean, and of good proportions. Shower/toilet was clean, simple and excellent. Where we ate our evening meal was a nice room, and the menu and meal was of good quality and very good value. Parking was more than adequate. Breakfast choices were plentiful and flexible, cannot fault. Would and hope to be able to stay again. There was an evening function on, however any noise from said function, did not disturb us at all, and every care was taken by staff to ensure this was the case! What a lovely family run pub to have found en route back to Scotland.

Really beautiful room and the staff were so lovely and helpful! It was very quiet and peaceful and the little touches to make sure we had everything we needed were amazing.
The room was very hot but there was a fan in the room which helped. I think it was just the location of that room that made it warm and we'd still stay again.

Very friendly welcome! Perfect location for the event I was attending in the area. My room was very pretty and cosy with the most comfortable bed ever. Spotlessly clean. The staff are very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. They don’t offer ‘room service’ but brought my breakfast to my room anyway for me when I didn’t want to sit alone in the restaurant. Lovely stay thank you.

Esther and her team clearly put a lot of thought in to making guests feel welcome, comfortable and looked after.
Would have preferred a more remote, rural location, but there is so much beautiful countryside on the doorstep that this wasn't really an issue.
