Very clean, and the junior suite was the perfect size for two people. The staff went above and beyond, adding thoughtful personal touches that made the stay feel special.
The parking is a bit far from the property. I recommend dropping off your luggage first before parking so you don’t have to carry everything the full distance.
Wonderful welcome with toys for the children. Comfortable and spacious room with great bath.
Delicious breakfast served in cafe downstairs with children’s playroom. Staff were very helpful and kind. Great location just a few minutes walk to the monkey park and Togetsukyō Bridge.
Met all our needs as a family travelling with two small children (3&0).

Arashiyana is a tourist destination but with a small town feel. The town is surrounded by a river/ mountains/ parks and several temples. It is great getaway if you like the outdoors and at the same time you are 20 minutes or so way from downtown Kyoto. If you are staying longer than 2 days in Kyoto and enjoy the outdoors, I would recommend staying in Arashiyana as you home base . The grand west is a combination Lodge with spacious room ( mini apartment) and very friendly staff. Rooms are Japanese style:)
The only thing I would suggest was to have the hand wash shower closer to the bath tub. There was not really an enclosed shower area with a door. It would have been nice to have an enclosed area for the hand held shower.
Spotlessly clean, comfortable beds, warm room and bathroom.
Nothing.
The size and comfort of the room and the proximity to all of the local attractions.
The hosts even arranged a petal arrangement on the bed ror our arrival as it was our honeymoon.
Such a welcoming and accommodating stay.
Nice interior design (mix modern and traditional), clean, facilities (water when we arrived, coffee, tea, toilet facilities…).
There is nothing that we didn’t like. There is no bath , and no laundry service)
Camera molto bella e spaziosa con tutti i confort
Posizione, servizi,pulizia e cordialità
Clean and convenient to train station and attractions. Helpful and friendly staff.
Room was beautiful, staff were amazing, breakfast was great, location was perfect. Short walk to Lawsons, Bamboo forest, train station and various shops and eateries.
I really enjoyed my stay at The GrandWest Arashiyama.
1. The location is about a 12-15 min walk to the main tourist street of Arashiyama within a quiet neighborhood.
2. Check in is very easy as there is a staff member at the entrance to give you your room key and answer any questions.
3. The room is very clean and spacious for Japan standards. I'm very picky when it comes to cleanliness and smells but The GrandWest Arashiyama passed with flying colors.
4. We booked the "Suite with Kitchen" room which gave us a larger table to have meals and journal. I really enjoyed the aesthetic of the room and the extensive use of wood.
I would for sure book this hotel if I ever stay at Arashiyama again.
There are only a few downsides but they would not deter me from booking this hotel again.
1. The location is a bit of a walk from the main tourist street of Arashiyama (12-15 mins). The walk is not too bad but I did have a leg injury during my trip and the rain didn't help either. There is a bus stop located near the hotel that will take you to the main tourist street (about a 2 min walk to the bus stop) but the bus arrival times are erratic and not on time per google maps (not the hotel's fault). The walk or bus wait times isn't so bad that it would deter me from booking this hotel but it is for sure something to keep in mind and expect if you plan to stay here.
2. The hotel does not have an elevator so if you have a lot of luggage, it can be difficult going up and down the stairs during check in and check out. I would recommend booking a room that is on the lowest level. The staff did help us move our luggage during check in which was very nice.
Overall the pros heavily outweigh the cons of this hotel. The staff is very nice and the room is wonderful.
The room we stayed at was spectacular. It was spacious, clean, and inviting. The tatami mats added a special twist to a modern room. The facility was clean and the roof top was a plus! We were also offered a tour around the city at no cost. It was great to get insight from a local. Yuji was very informative, charming, and a great guide! Would definitely recommend! The included breakfast was delicious. It was a great variety and portion.
I would add lights to the outside when it gets dark, so it’s easier to locate.
The staff, the huge space (by Japanese room standards), the breakfast and the property and cafe were both kid friendly.
Nothing - perfect stay 😊
