Excellent value hotel in lovely location .
Pros:

This place is amazing value for money. We had a comfortable room with real coffee maker. Excellent breakfast is included. Our meals in the evening were good and there was a wide choice. The setting is amazing: overlooking a pretty valley with a lake. There are lots of places to walk nearby and a small railway that seems to run only at holiday times. The hotel gardens are pretty and there is plenty of outdoor seating in sunny spots. All the hotel staff were pleasant and helpful.

Cons:

Nothing

Comfortable room but not a pleasant stay due to the issues we encountered.
Pros:

The bed room was very clean and fit shoes very well.

Cons:

On arrival at the hotel at 10.30 pm the doors were locked and there was no answer from the out of hours phone number. There was no way into the hotel apart from the locked front door. Fortunately for us we had other family members staying in the hotel who were still awake and came and opened the front door. Having tried to phone number again there was still no answer! Having found our paper work at the reception desk we were lucky enough to also find our key and let ourselves in!!! If we had not had family staying it would have been a cold uncomfortable night for us in the car. We did have the option of driving home if needed but hi would have been over an hours drive with children in tow. We had been to a family wedding and had we had a drink we would have had that option. The hotel were aware of our arrival and still no one answered the contact number. I have worked in hotels for many years and I find it frightening that there was no overnight staff presence with the hotel building itself having been told that the out of hours person lives on site in a cottage. I dread to think what would happen in an emergency. We did raise our concerns with the staff in the morning and apologies were given and our stay discounted.
We did stay for breakfast which was a long process as there wasn’t many members of staff on and our food took a long time to arrive. When it did arrive one of the orders was incorrect and rather than take away what was wrong and return with the correct hot breakfast we were left to wait while the other items on the plate went cold. The other orders were not as advertised as I ordered the poached eggs with avocado on granary toast. What arrived was two very hard poached eggs on cheap brown barely toasted toast. On a plus side the coffee was good!
With regards to the room it was very hot due to the weather and the windows barely opened due to the safety catches. There wasn’t many members a fan but that was too noisy to have on whilst we slept.
