We had a wonderful stay here with our child. The hotel is genuinely family-friendly, and the kids’ activities were thoughtfully designed—not just for show, but truly engaging and enjoyable.

There were different activities scheduled each day, like simple crafts, interactive games, and small group sessions that made it easy for kids to participate and have fun. You could really see the effort the staff put into creating a warm and welcoming environment for families.

What I appreciated most was how relaxed everything felt. It wasn’t overly structured or overwhelming—just the right balance that allowed both kids and parents to enjoy the experience. Our child had such a great time that leaving the hotel was actually the hardest part.

Overall, a lovely stay, and we would definitely come back again.

My wife and I booked the Sea View Pool Duplex Villa at Angsana Zhuhai Phoenix Bay for one reason and one reason only, the private pool. We are long-time Banyan Tree guests, having stayed at properties in Phuket, Bangkok, and Macau over the past decade. We trusted the brand. That trust was misplaced.

The pool was ice cold and completely unusable for the entirety of our stay. When we raised this with staff, we were told the heater is switched off at night due to noise. Fine, except the water never reached a swimmable temperature during the day either, despite repeated complaints. So what exactly are you paying the premium for? A decorative water feature?

When we followed up formally with management, the response was a nominal discount that frankly felt insulting. No meaningful effort to make things right. If you advertise a private pool as the centrepiece of a villa category and charge accordingly, it needs to actually work. Full stop.

Beyond the pool debacle, the property needs to be judged with clear eyes. By mainland China standards, this may pass as a five-star hotel. By Hong Kong or international standards, it is nowhere close. The finishes, the service standards, the overall feel, it is a mid-tier property wearing a luxury badge. The food reinforced this impression. Perfectly acceptable for a mid-range hotel, but nothing that would justify the rates or the brand name attached to it. If you have dined at any genuine five-star property in Hong Kong, Macau, or Southeast Asia, you will find the offerings here forgettable.

Staff were friendly enough but English-speaking ability was poor, which made communicating our concerns more difficult than it should have been at a property operating under an international luxury brand.

We have stayed at competitors like Ayana in Bali more recently and the gap in quality, service, and value is stark. The Banyan Tree name used to mean something to us. After this experience and the dismissive response to a legitimate complaint, we will think very carefully before booking any property in this group again.

If the private pool matters to you, and presumably it does if you are paying for a pool villa, book elsewhere until they sort out their heating situation. You are paying five-star villa prices for a cold plunge pool you never asked for.

The resort meets all the basic requirements of a resort. The view from my room is very beautiful, feels like I was in Bali.

Staff attention and dedication.

The location of the hotel is excellent with a fantasic view of the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau Bridge and the Zhuhai Opera House. The Sea View room is spacious with 2 basins in the bathroom so there is no need to wait too long for using the basins if there are more than 2 people staying in the room. The staffs in the hotel are very friendly and helpful.

From the moment we arrived, the staff made our stay exceptional. Kim at reception set the tone right away — incredibly helpful, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. It’s rare to feel that well looked after the second you walk through the door, but he managed it effortlessly.

Breakfast was another highlight. The buffet itself was great, but what really stood out was Bill in the restaurant. He was friendly, professional, and made the whole experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. It’s clear he takes pride in making guests feel comfortable.

Overall, the service from both Kim and Bill made my stay feel personal and memorable. A wonderful hotel with truly outstanding staff.
