Hotel Asteri Bansko

We were transferred to another resort from same company in same town that was actually an upgrade. All was very good, except that nobody of the personal wore masks (during Covid restrictions) neither did they ask the clients to were masks or present a covid-vaccine pasport at check-in. I liked the hotel and service very much, but the non-Covid messures at the hotel pulled me off. If they would change their safety policy we would definitely book there again. A pity for them, as we travel at least ones a year to Bansko and they will miss out a lot of bookings for this reason not to take Covid pandemic serious, aspecialy international travellers.

At the beginning of February we visited Hotel Asteri, the former Hotel Sofia in Bansko with a preliminary reservation made by phone and a prepaid deposit. What was our surprise when we found out that we could not stay there for the first night! The manager, Mr. Stanko Dobrev, without apology, offered to move us for one night to another hotel and offered compensation for the evenings on the principle of half board, with a discount of 20 to 15 levs per person. To my logical question, why they didn't call to inform us in advance, he answered that "they called me, but I was undetectable". There was no such call, just as there was no message. It was explained to me rather rudely that "I did not understand something." In the same way "I did not understand" that the parking is paid extra, as well as the spa area. We saw in the official information of the hotel that the dinner per person on the half board is BGN 16 and the discount from Mr. Stanko is actually BGN 1, not BGN 5 as he initially presented it. I kept "not understanding" and looking for an explanation, but I found only rude and arrogant behavior on the part of Mr. Stanko. I saw that for dinner a person is given a glass of draft wine or beer in the price of dinner, but such was never offered to us. When we tried to order, we were told by the waiter that he was not allowed to serve such drinks. After another lie by Mr. Stanko, it is normal to feel not just disappointed, but extremely offended. I feel sorry for the many Romanian and Ukrainian guests who are deceived and lied to at every turn. They wanted BGN 10 per day for parking, provided that the municipal one was next door and was completely free. I must note that the high rating of the hotel is due to its previous management, as this person we came across has been managing it since November 2020.
Briefly more information about the conditions - The furniture in the rooms is slightly outdated and neglected. There is no lift and you have to pick up your luggage yourself. The spa complex is very small, uncomfortable and has mold everywhere, the jacuzzi cannot be used without the intervention of staff. The food for dinner is monotonous and not very tasty. Portions are small. The cook has a tendency to over fried and oversalt. They offer mainly one type of chicken, pork and local sausage. Salads are small. Free drinks for dinner are not served, although they are included in the price. You can buy them at a big premium. Parking is paid. Last but not least, the behavior of Mr. Stanko Dobrev is unacceptable and repulsive. When he is away from the hotel the atmosphere is more pleasant and the rest of the staff is very kind.

My stay never happened. The hotel had no available rooms although i was charged for the booking and hotel.com website showed availability.

I recommend this cosy and quiet hotel which is great value for money. The rooms are massive, comfortable and very well insulated, plus the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi are a bonus. Only disappointed with breakfast starting 8am which is quite late if you want to avoid queues for the gondola lift.

Small and cozy hotel in the centre of the town, on a quiet small street.
After a walk or skiing during the day, you can have sauna or massage (but you have to plan it because you have to book it in the morning). Nice selection of wines near to the fire place. It is very hot in the rooms, so you have to open the window for some fresh air in case you do not like high temps. The restaurant is small but giving you nice atmosphere and the food is pretty good prepared. In case you are not too sophisticated you would like the stay there. Nice kids corner/room and several parking places just infront of the hotel.

The Hotel is amazing. The rooms are clean and tidy. It is hot. The personnel is friendly and ready to serve every guest. The cuisine is perfect. The chef is ready to prepare food for every sophisticated taste. The place for kids amusement is well equip ted. It is a place where you can relax and enjoy your holiday. The SPA is one of the best I have ever been!

Тhe hotel is situated in the center of the city and close to ski lift. It is overall very pleasing and the hotel has a cool small spa, which is so important for me after skiing. Also, they offer a parking if you come with a car. We stayed for five nights and feel the room comfortable but starting to look tired.I think that the hotel is a good choice if you like winter sports. I would recommend residing at this hotel because it is excellently positioned and in my opinion very good value for money.

If you want to have a bad vacation, go to this hotel and you will have these inconveniences:
- No employee of the hotel does not speak English;
- Towels were not changed in the 5 days / 4 nights we stayed at this hotel, the trash was not taken from the room and bathroom, they no brought us extra toilet paper, shampoo, soap (only those who we found on the first day, one from each product);
- Room furniture was old, olso old sofa and the TV was small and with tube, not lcd;
- The dinners New Year's Eve meal were terrible (cold food, not well done, in any case as it should be a New Year meal, even mid-level);
- Distance to ski is quite high, reached in about 20 minutes;
- No professionalism from receptionist, waiter, chef/ patron. They give me the impression that they want to leave the hotel and not to feel good and come back with pleasure.
- In the spa jacuzzi does not work (for a long tin\me, as I saw in reviews), there is a sauna and a massage table (I don`t know who make massage .... probably the receptionist, waiter or cooker).
My advice is not to step into this hotel, which I think is rather 1 star, 3-star hotel that should not exist until it will improve services.

If you want to eat really bad food, stay in a dirty room, being served in the worst way possible then this is your hotel. We paid around 50 euro per person per night which is tremendously expensive for what you receive.
- they made you pay for extra towels
- they don't clean the room and don't give extra toilet paper if you don't go and ask on the reception for it
- one of the evenings the waiter slept at the next couch while we were talking at the lobby, because he wasn't allowed to leave us alone there... his feet smelled so terrible we had to leave eventually
- the food was just very very bad cooked
- the tv was broken and it wasn't even working.. .

The worst choise for the money value.
No hot water .the breakfast is poor.
No profenalism. Wi-fi signal poor.No parking place.incorect info on site about the distance to ski gondola,the right distance is up to 1km.
Spa services very-very poor.
Cleaning room services very poor,i stayed 4 days and nobody cleaned the room or changed the sheets.
For sure there are much much better choises with this amound of money i payed (44 euros per day).

Great little hotel with homey feeling. Perfect location and very quiet at the same time. Nice and clean rooms. The SPA is e very good touch after a day outside on the snow. The stuff is super helpful and friendly. Great value for your money, I strongly recommend this place.

Very spacious rooms, actually they are suites. Nice selection of wines and food at a very good prices! Family friendly with a kids club next to the restaurant. Cozy SPA that you can use even late at night. Nice and smily staff. Will come back in summer to explore the mountain.

In my view hotel Sofia is first choice for family holidays. The food is good and they have a nice winter garden. The staff is friendly tuned and open for guest's requests. For the small children the hotel propose child's spot.

Good hotel in terms of value for money, small and neat, very convenient location, good place for a family holiday.
Of course there is still much to be improved, but the hotel is really good and deserves attention.

The best thing is the great location and nice staff of the hotel, but that's all. Very bad food and hygiene. No one change even the bin in our room. There is awful mold smell in the SPA. We won't go in that place again.

I started looking for a hotel in Bansko by the criteria "family friendly" since I have 2 small children travelling always with me. We chose hotel SOFIA in Bansko because of its good reputation for family holiday. The hotel itself is located in the centre of Bansko (just 1 minute walking distance) on a quiet street. There is a kids club in the lobby with a lot of toys. The administrator of the hotel kept an eye on the children while we were out during the day. The accommodation was very comfortable for a 3 star hotel. There was free WI-FI, which is very important for me. The connection wasn't excellent but it was perfect to browse the internet. Also we used the SPA centre. It includes steam bath, sauna and a heated Jacuzzi, which was a lot of fun.

The food in the restaurant was also very delicious. Of course in Bansko there are a lot of taverns and pub where you can eat and drink, but sometimes you feel like eating in the hotel and going straight to bed.

I forgot to mention something very important - the distance to the Ski Lift. It is roughly 1 km away, which in the winter can be a bit annoying. So the hotel staff organize a transfer to the Ski lift and back.

I would recommend the hotel!

with my partner we took a last minute voucher (the previous day) and it was suspiciously cheap (33lv per night per person), but we did not have time to investigate.

+ the hotel looks very nice from outside
+ great location, in the city center, close to the river
+ one of the receptionists was really nice and managed very quickly a solution for our overboooking
+ room was looking cozy and was large enough

- there was an overbooking
- matresses were terrible
- water in shower was really slow
- spa was smelling mold
- no hygiene was maintain in spa - everyone could do whatever they want
- second receptionist was looking extremely annoyed of every question I had
- don't expect housekeeping to clean your room in the morning

Breakfast/dinner is ok if you are willing to eat the cheapest products on the market. Definitely not more than 2 stars on that.

To summarize - if you are used to sleep cheap - maybe it will be ok for you, but if you are expecting comfort - better look for another option.

Very nice, clean and cheap accommodation, 10 minute walk to gondola. The apartment was very well heated and comfortable, stuff very helpful and gentle. Breakfast and dinner really great. Good value for money, recommendation for this hotel.
