Expected to be very basic but it was excellent for the price!
Pros:

At the price I paid, I really didn't expect much more than the very basics and certainly didn't think breakfast would be included. The room was spacious, very cleverly designed to maximise storage space, clean and tidy. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and the shower room a decent size with a good shower. A pastry and a coffee in the morning was a bonus! I would definitely stay here again if attending an event at this university site.

Cons:

A kettle in winter would be a nice touch but otherwise I really cannot find fault.

Janus was recommended as basic but adequate and reasonably priced to enable me to attend a workshop
Pros:

We chose to go to the Halifax Hall for breakfast. It was excellent.
The staff were exceptionally helpful. The bathroom facilities were very good, very clean and the towels lovely and fluffy!

Cons:

Ventilation during the heatwave was inadequate as the window could only open in a restricted position .
A bit too basic for us as octogenarians, but adequate. The location was very convenient for us.

Cons:

I arrived late and there were no parking spaces. When I asked where I could park a member of staff told me as I was the last one to arrive that night I could use one of the disabled spaces. When I came down in the morning I had been given a parking ticket, despite having a parking voucher in my windscreen.

I explained this to the manager who said there was nothing they could do as the parking was operated by a parking company not connected with the hotel. So my cheap stay became an expensive one after the £60 parking fee. Despite my emails suggesting they pay half the fee as a gesture of goodwill I have not had a reply. Avoid
