Hotel Acty is a very short distance from Takayama Station. It is easy to see as it's name on a board above the hotel. The outside is tired looking, and the rooms could do with refurbishment, but it is clean and friendly. There are segregated onsens on the 6th floor (which both my husband and I used). They are old, and some of the tiles have stains around them, but I believe the baths are clean. A very relaxing start to the day. There are two breakfasts provided in the restaurant- Western and Japanese. I tried both, and they were good. One drawback was that I could hear the shower in the next room when I was in my bed. We also could not find a safe in our room, but did not ask reception. Not the Hilton, but comfortable.
Note- presently on the train front Takayama to Nagoya and the scenery is stunning!
Good location, rooms are ok only. Us$ 100 is bit expensive for the kind of rooms. Friendly staff. Food was good and the breakfast was good. Walking to beach and family mart which helps a lot. Love my walk in the morning near the beach.
This hotel is in desperate need of a revamp. The fridge doesn't work was told it "takes time to get cold" but in 2 days it never got cold, the water system is temperamental jolting you aware from warm to hot and occasionally to cold, the rooms don't feel super clean despite having a very lovely housekeeper, and the bathroom was covered in mould.
I was unable to stay in the traditional room due to the overbearing smell but was promptly moved, at no charge, to a western style room. I would look else where if within your budget, at least until this place gets renovated - if it ever does!
Within easy walking distance of the rail station but that is the only good thing going for it. Needs upgrading with a thorough re-decoration. Room did not feel clean - beds were uncomfortable; door heights were low and therefore dangerous. Wifi was poor - owner claimed the wifi worked in the room but it only worked in the reception area. We were going to stay two nights but we moved on after one - avoid disappointment and find somewhere else to stay.
Stayed here April 2009 for a night. We wanted to attend the Takayama Matsuri and we could not find any vacancies in any of the hotels in the area. Hotel Acty was the only one that still had room available at that time so we decided to go ahead and gave it a try. We did not have any expectation about this hotel as we were aware that the hotel maybe a bit dated from the pictures we found on the Internet.
The hotel was exactly what we expected. Very old and tired looking. There was a strong odor in the bathroom and it was making me difficult to fall asleep ( I am very sensitive to odor). The light above our bed was not working properly and it just kept flashing all night. Needless to say, I did not sleep well that all.
We did not opt for the breaskfast plan so I have no idea what their breakfast is like. Avoid their their communal bath, it looks more like a bath tub than an onsen. It was not cleaned and sanitized properly.
On a more positive note, staff at the front desk was friendly and helpful. They offered a lot of great suggestions on places to visit and we really appreciated their help.
What a great part of our trip. Takayama was so cool. The Hotel was great for us. Very spacious family room. Great brekky before heading out into the chilly day. Found a nearby restaurant that was upstairs and it had great chicken wings. Have a good look at Tkayama. We walked everywhere - no need for buses if you don't mind a bit of a walk. Our nine year old daughter managed it all as well.
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It is only a few minutes walk from the station and, although it's not the fanciest place, we were impressed by the space and novel Japaneseness of the rooms. We were surprised by the HUGE Japanese ryokan style room we got that had a full bathroom and tatami floors and futon bedding. The only thing that got me was the very old and sometimes tacky interior design at the reception and the hallway.
The room had everything, including a fridge, aircon, tv, cupboards, jug, kotatsu, some cups and saucers, and of course a pair of yukata. The room was quite cheap (9,000 yen) and included two free breakfasts: your choice of Western or Japanese. The staff spoke English and were very friendly. I would definitely recommend this hotel, especially if you are looking for something cheap and close to the station. We had a very comfortable sleep and stay.
Hotel Acty is a good choice in Takayama. Close to the railway station, the receptionists were very kind and helpfull. The room is quite spacious for japanese standards and is provided with everything you need. For breakfast you can choose between american and japanese breakfast. We had american breakfast and it was quite rich.
Hotel Acty is a couple of blocks south of the train station, very convenient. Staff were pleasant, welcoming, and very helpful, and they do speak some English. There's a computer in the lobby for guest use, so you can check e-mail. Breakfast was included, a traditional Japanese meal in the restaurant. Front desk staff turned on an extra light for me when I was at the computer, offered to lend me an umbrella on a rainy day, and gave me a bottle of imported spring water when I checked out. My room was simple and very clean, but had some odor. The bathroom was huge. Decor was 1960's. I booked this hotel through the Rakuten Travel website and paid only 4,980 yen for a single room with breakfast, an excellent value.
Several blocks north, just past the Washington Hotel, and half a block east, is a little restaurant called the Sun Art Cafe. I had a very pleasant and inexpensive dinner there, and the proprietor and her daughter enjoyed showing me magic tricks!
