Firstly, check in details arrive on the morning of your trip. Our Entrance was down a side alley that leads to a slots bar and cab office. Called the number is advise we were earlier that the 3pm check in time (as per the details on this website when booking) to be told not a problem room is ready, arrived to be told by the cleaner check in was 3.30 and room was clearly not ready, she very kindly allowed us to place our cases in the room so we could go out. When we returned later, we found the room to be extremely tiny with the smallest double bed (although comfortable) not really large enough for a couple. Very clean and it was a nice surprise to have find we had a private kitchen facility. Shower door was very stiff.
Not as advertised- no continental breakfast in the shared area. Although there was a coffee machine which frequently ran out of beans/milk and was not replenished until the following day, occasionally a small selection of biscuits. - daily cleaning - our room was not cleaned at all after our arrival. - complementary items not as advertised
Room was very warm, air conditioning did work but very noisy. Unable to sleep whist it was on. No windows in bedroom except for a skylight. Skylight could be opened however due to the noise from the cab office and slots bar in the early hours it had to be closed. Lots of noise from other guests returning up the stairs and along the hallways, floorboards definitely need attending to.
The place looked great till I booked what I thought was a hotel and then got the email that explained it was an Airbnb but I was unable to get a refund. I would not have booked if I knew it wasn’t a hotel, so I was annoyed before my stay even started. The room was awful and only had a skylight. Pillows were lumpy and cheap. Bath products were not rituals like the pictures showed. Black mold on the shower sealant. Room had a very bright green light in it that kept waking me up. They did spend money doing the place up but went cheap on toiletries, pillows and bedding. Also no glasses in the room to get a drink. And don’t get me started on the ridiculously long codes you have to enter to get into two doors. If your cell phone dies you are homeless as there is no reception and you can’t call them after 8pm
Our stay was great! Good location close to all the main things in Oxford as well as a great pub right in front of the hotel. The only reason for taking off a star is that our air conditioner made this rumbling vibrating sound the whole time and through the night which woke us up…. But other than that a great place to stay!
Enjoyed the room and adjacent kitchenette facilities. However, the air conditioning unit was not functioning properly and consequently the room was too hot and not comfortable. Opening the roof light was the only way to cool the room to a reasonable temperature. Unfortunately, we had to close the roof light as we were awoken at 03:00 by a group of people shouting and swearing loudly in the courtyard area immediately below our room. It was an unnecessarily restless and uncomfortably hot night.
Room was ok but TV channels and remote not really any good. No main UK channels
Electric blind remote not working
Very disappointed. Hotel had recently changed hands but not communicated that to guests who had already booked. Had to chase for the entrance code which was supposed to have been provided 72 hours prior.
New management were inept sent me the booking details, card details and phone number of another persons booking.
I’d paid for breakfast for the two of us. The photos still show a lovely spread of pastries etc but there was nothing. Fine if the new owners don’t want to offer breakfast but you need to at least tell guests who have booked and paid a premium in this premise. Room was fine, comfy bed but outside noise from taxi rank was disturbing. I would not book again or recommend to anyone. Wished I’d stayed out of town instead. Communal areas very unwelcoming, stained carpet, dodgy alleyway. Not at all like the photos!
Not having a hotel staff seemed a bit odd, we managed but could have used some help
Despite having 'Hotel' in the name, this is not a hotel. It's more of an airbnb set up, you will not check in with anyone and there is no service or breakfast set up. If you have an issue you can't just pop to the lobby. Unfortunately, we forgot to look at the reviews before staying (big mistake) if we had we would have chosen somewhere else, I can back up the reviews - terrible experience, overpriced, AVOID. The only good thing is the central location.
Our windowless r̶o̶o̶m̶ cell wasn't particularly clean, we suspected the towels were not fresh, the packaged milk was partly open and off (so we couldn't even make a cup of tea!). The decor is tacky and the finish is terrible. It's located above a pub so noise was an issue, even with the windows closed. Despite coming to Oxford for a well needed break we left like zombies having both had a terrible, sleepless night.
The code for the entrance door is sent via text, this is how you access the room. The way the code for the front door and to the room is, I strongly suspect there is a security issue. For instance, we could access another part of the hotel (we went through the wrong door).
For the price, we were expecting an actual hotel. Do not stay here unless you want a substandard experience.
The property was located centrally. Close to the shopping centre, restaurants and easy walk to the train station.
Room 4 is small but nice and comfy
The customer service was beyond expectations. We were met outside and our bags brought in and up for us. The room was ready early. When we checked out we mentioned we were heading to the train so she packed a lovely bag of waters and snacks for us. It was such a kind act.
I didn’t realize it was a property that you check yourself in and out of so when we got there early we had to call to find out where we could store our luggage. Once we talked to them they were very responsive.
Very difficult to contact reception bc there is no central location. Had to use data and call them for a code to get in. That cost us $$. Room was ok...window blind on one window did not work, and could hear everything in next room. Luckily they were fairly quiet except when on their phones. Nice lounge with water and coffee.
Best location. Lounges are perfect!
This hotel isn’t like a traditional hotel, it has no front desk and everything automated. We were able to get a quick response when we had trouble with the blind in our room and the room was nice, comfy bed and pillows. It’s in a great location for walking around Oxford!
Great location, good value.
Positives:
-- EXCELLENT location both for tourism and for those who have business at one of the colleges (but don't come with a car)
-- clean, comfortable bed
Negatives:
--given that the hotel has no office or concierge on site, inadequate communication about how to find and enter (it's not easy)
--loud noise from local intoxicants et al ALL NIGHT LONG (bring earplugs)
--LED clock didn't work
--safe didn't work
--remotely controlled blinds only semi-functional
--room 8 and its bathroom are tiny (room not big enough for two)
--no one to tell or correct problems
The balance falls to the negative side of the ledger.
The hotel was lovely. We were very happy with our stay however the bed was very small.
Great solo stay - was pretty much self service - you get texted your building, room access code, and also the wifi details - theres no reception or staff visible as such (at least, in the front part of the building where I was staying), but it's clean and comfortable enough. There were stairs and a spiral staircase to access my particular hotel room, so check if you have accessibility requirements.
The whole hotel including the bedrooms smells like sewage. They clearly have a plumbing problem as I could hear the pipes bubbling and emitting a stench throughout the night. Impossible to sleep in.
Avoid!
Once we had our access code evrything ticked the box!
Would likely use again next time we visit Oxford
