I spend 100+ nights per year in all levels of hotels and maintain diamond status. We're middle aged, not high maintenance and travel to Portland at least 6 times per year.
However negative, this review is honest.
The lobby/reception is just a desk next to the front door.
Room was not ready at 4:00 when we called ahead of time confirming it would be. Was finally checked-in at 4:35; told nothing about the property nor was my diamond status acknowledged.
Front desk in general not friendly and lacking professionalism.
Walked past countless times in three days and was never smiled at; spoken to or anything. However people on their phones all the time...
Lack of security; anyone as access to restrooms, elevators, all floors and no elevator cameras. No visible security persons; only valet and front desk person...
Room had visible wear & tear and stains on anything fabric.
The air conditioning in room was barely functional which was addressed with no recourse.
Room was not made up the next day/evening. Address this with front desk, said someone would come up and no one did.
Restaurant sucked!
No pancakes, French toast, waffles or baked goods available for breakfast? Morning restaurant staff were outright rude! Complained about guests/their jobs in front of us...
One evening at 5:45pm out of menu items too?
In conclusion:
No body cares at this property!
This Canopy truly failed on delivering what the brand says it's about or even basics of accommodations. Experiences like this make me rethink my Hilton brand loyalty.
There was no breakfast and the hotel was very booked wthout enough hellp to check us in.
The value was not acceptable. I feel they exagerated on the info and other hotels in the area were nicer.
The hotel is beautiful and clean. I love how they have hydration stations on every floor so bring your refillable flask! Customer service was great and I enjoyed the espresso machine in the room. However, the air conditioning in my room wasn’t working that great. Their AC is controlled and I couldn’t lower the temperature below 68 degrees. So for my ladies going through perimenopause or menopause, beware! The front desk was able to bring a fan to my room which helped me get through the night. Otherwise, it would have been miserable!
I book a three night stay at the canopy. The hotel itself is very nice, but my experience was much much less than I’d hoped. 1. The air conditioning started and stopped for my entire stay, I had to call reception and let them know, they told me maintenance would fix it, but they did not. 2. My breakfast at the hotels voux restaurant was cold, I sat at the bar and ordered eggs, and when I received them they were stone cold. There were maybe three other diners in the hotel restaurant at the time, and the staff yelled out across the restaurant to communicate, which felt abrasive. 3. On the morning of my last day the hotel water simply ceased to operate in the shower. I told the receptionist and she said she would take care of it, but later that night I turned the water in again, and still the same- cold water. 4. When house keeping made up my room on the second afternoon ( late at around 5pm) they removed the duvet cover. So on the third day I just had a nasty duvet with no cover. 5. When I called down to reception after the second time I tried to have a hot shower and explained all of this, the guy told me that he would let management know tomorrow, and didn’t offer to fix any of this. I told him, I was checking out tomorrow and he said ‘alright’ and left it at that. I’m not even bothering to list other issues, slow valet, both elevators broke down and I was unable to use them, and instead had to use the stairs. All this would be fine at a 2 star hotel, but I’m not paying for 2 star. I think if there was some effort to sort this stuff out I wouldn’t be writing this, but they don’t care.
Rooms were great. Food was great. Front desk staff was incredible. Make sure to try their local chocolate!
Stayed May 23–25 (Room K1-601) and this was one of the worst hotel experiences I've had. Valet was the only parking option and repeatedly failed to respond to calls and messages. Despite AMEX early check-in eligibility, I waited 60+ minutes in the lobby and the room still wasn't ready past 4 PM. The room itself had broken AC (offered a fan as a solution), a broken shower, and a cracked mirror with exposed glass — a genuine safety hazard with a young child present. Floor 6's water dispenser was broken, and I found a needle on the hallway floor near where my child was playing. On billing, I was charged for items I did not take — the receptionist gave me incorrect credit information, I corrected myself at the counter based on it, returned the items, and was still billed; she then refused to fix the charge. The checkout staff were dismissive and told me it was my responsibility to report property issues during my stay. The manager's goodwill gesture mid-stay was the only moment of competence in the entire visit. Everything else fell well below basic Hilton standards. Will not return.
Staff was very nice although I called twice for toilet paper. I kept in mind maybe it was busy downstairs but also felt ignored as I had to call second time.
I thought breakfast was included and free but had to pay extra. Wish it was more clear. Also the carpet was very bearded and snagged. Section should be replaced as my husband does flooring and we notice it really stands out. It pulled the over all look of place down a bit.
Room was too cold
Room temperature
Loved the water refill stations on each floor, the gym view was amazing. Staff very friendly and bar dinner menu was delicious
We had a great stay at Canopy by Hilton Portland Pearl District. The location was perfect—close to Powell’s Books, Screen Door, with easy freeway access and the metro nearby, which made getting around really convenient.
The hotel has a stylish boutique vibe, and our room was spacious and very comfortable for two people. The king bed and pillows were especially cozy, and we appreciated having plenty of outlets and charging ports for our devices. I loved that we had access to the the ice machine, water refill station and microwave close to the elevator. Bonus: free coffee and cold water in the lobby sitting area, there's a gym on the top floor and roof top access.
The staff were friendly enough and helpful when needed. I would definitely stay here again.
Front desk service was efficient overall—the night staff were warm and welcoming, while daytime interactions felt a bit less personable (not a terrible thing but just something I noticed). Also, the lobby scent was quite strong upon entry, which may be noticeable for those sensitive to fragrances, especially during allergy season.
Excellent customer service especially by JR! Same way to Lacey and Allegra.
Thank you for the breakfast credit.
Location
Everything was really bad.
Easy and fast check in. Everyone we interacted with had a smile and was helpful. Room was clean and spacious. Has pretty much everything you need and within Walking distance to most of the Pearl district and commuter travel. Would recommend.
Easy check-in-out. Good valet service. Decent room. Great location.
Breakfast food service was slowwww plus misorders, and eggs not cooked properly. That’s the biggest ding here. Bar inventory was weak but not a biggie. Hotel staff and valet service were on it.
