Very good hotel for solo travelers , excellent location and staff. Very good and cheap breakfast. Guest friendly. I would stay here again.

La Amistad Hotel charged me $516.99 when Hotels.com said that I would be charged $487.65 for this booking (I did not incur any additional charges, so I do not know why there is this $29.34 difference in charges).

Also, the room needed a deep cleaning, especially the kitchen (which was the main reason I rented this particular room). The staff seemed pleasant, but due to the discrepancy in room charges and the tidiness of this penthouse suite hotel room, I do not think I will be going back.

Safe and accessible location

We based ourselves here for first few nights in Costa Rica having wanted a central location. Check in went smoothly and staff were always available and helpful with 24 hour front desk and we felt safe. Breakfast was reasonably priced and good quality.

The room itself was spacious with two beds both of which were comfortable and the bathroom had hot water although the door to it didn’t shut. The one ac unit couldn’t cool the room. Use of such a space was poor and instead of creating a good social area, the quality, type and placement of furniture meant it was impractical to use much of it. The room looked tired and some of the plentiful electrical sockets didn’t look entirely safe.

Outside the hotel, there was a nice little restaurant across the road, a mini mart with a smoothie stall attached. It was also only a few blocks from some of the central markets and sites of downtown. On the flip side, the train tracks run alongside the hotel and for the first two days trains were running from 5am. For reasons we didn’t understand far fewer trains ran later in the week.

With some improvements I would consider staying here again despite the review I’ve given. The room has such potential and just needs a little investment to address decor and layout and some issues with weak Wi-Fi. Staff were friendly, welcoming and flexible to our needs so there is clearly the desire to provide a good customer experience and it just needs this to be reflected throughout the building itself.

Unique, rustic hotel. Hostess was very friendly and helpful. Walkable distance from everything I wanted to experience. I would definitely go again.
My only advice is to give door handle signs for when to clean and warn guests of the train so they can bring earplugs. Regardless I give them 4.8

I highly recommend this hotel. It is centrally located and within walking distance of many museums and downtown San Jose. The staff was awesome.

The owner and the staff are awesome. The room is excellent for what you pay. But the building is old and not renovated. The hotel is very secure. It has air conditioning and room cleaning every day. The cleaning staff is also very good. Thanks for mat the owner for welcoming guests with friendliness. I would like to stay again whenever I have a chance.
