Great location

We stayed in the newly renovated building separate from the main hotel, and the room itself was warm with very comfortable beds. The location was also a strong point, being less than a 10-minute walk from the train station, which made getting around very convenient. When I ordered scrambled eggs on toast instead of using the buffet, they were freshly cooked and much better quality than the buffet offering.
I found the cooked buffet breakfast disappointing: the hash browns were pale and dried out, the mushrooms lacked flavour, and the baked beans appeared to have been contaminated with bacon, which was off-putting as a vegetarian. The swimming pool area was also far below expectations compared with the online photos — it looked grubby and mouldy, the water was cloudy, and the jacuzzi had a musty smell. We didn’t stay long, and with no one else using it, it’s easy to see why guests might not return after one visit.
Breakfast was very good with excellent service by the staff.
I could bring my cat no problem 😌
Ambiance. Size of room. Pool. Staff. Food. Location.

It is a lovely building in a nice central location

We had a lovely 2 day stay at the Crown and Mitre. We stayed in a club room over looking the lovely town centre. The room was spacious and absolutely spotless.
The staff were super friendly and you can see how hard they work. The main door of the hotel leads to all the shops.
The hotel is about 5 minute walk to the station and all the bars/ restaurant. We are a couple in our early 30s and love going out exploring new pubs and bars.
We would stay again in a heart beat. The hotel is beautiful. We was also lucky to benefit from free parking. There is about 30 free car parking spaces at the back of the hotel.
