The Castle Hotel

I've stayed here on many occasions when working and it was one of my favourite hotels then. Now I've retired and it was the obvious choice when visiting Lincoln with my wife. There's nothing wrong with the Castle hotel and if you'd never been there before you wouldn't notice anything at all but it's not the place it once was.

There are far fewer staff around so check in, breakfast etc takes longer than it did. The quality of the breakfast whilst better than you'll get in many other hotels is again, not what it was. The biggest frustration was breakfast which usually involved repeated requests for more milk, butter or toast when more alert staff would notice these were needed. On our third and last morning there was a change of staff and it was a much better experience: The waitress/receptionist was lovely and chatty and the food arrived in a quarter of the time it had previously.

Other than these minor gripes, the stay was lovely. It would be hard to find a better location in Lincoln. The room was clean, the bed comfy and the shower hot. Everything I need.

I get that margins are getting squeezed and that good staff are hard to find but fixing these little things are what makes a hotel stand out from the crowd. I hope The Castle returns to its former glory soon.

My room overlooking the castle walls was spotless. However, the furnishings and decor were a little exhausted looking there and in public areas.
The vegetarian breakfast was outstanding. Good quality ingredients and piping hot.

Very impressed by all on offer. Room booked, first class value. Evening meal excellent As was breakfast. Have not had such attentive and prompt restaurant service "for many a year"! Hotel situation close to cathedral and castle. The reason for visit. Also close to long term parking as hotel does not have places for cars.

Great location and nice hotel.

Very happy with our stay at the castle hotel bailgate. Clean, welcoming, great location. Breakfast was first rate, freshly cooked to order and very tasty. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Will definitely go back if I were to visit again.

The staff were lovely . The property itself was tired looking , our room was basic .

Hotel was in good location for the historic area and was walkable.

The hotel refused to allow me to park the car in the car park and said the car park was for the exclusive use of guests who booked directly by phone and as I used hotels.com I needed to move it. This is apparently confirmed in the terms and conditions but I must have missed this. I arrived early and could have done with checking-in without the need to return to the hotel after 15:00 but this was refused on the basis that the printer wasn’t working. I moved my car to the council car park which is £10 for 24 hours so pretty reasonable and about 100m away.

The bed was rock-hard. The room was clean and well maintained.

Breakfast was nice - cooked to order.

We had a very pleasant stay at The Castle hotel: comfortable rooms, clean and in a quiet surrounding.

Lovely food. Parking tight do if busy park in public car park like most city hotels. Staff were really friendly and helpful

Every thing was great except being an old property there was no elevator and there is no mention of it in the listing. I have arthritis and carrying my suitcase upstairs was not what I was planning on.

A very nice hotel, conveniently located near the cathedral, castle & old town. The executive rooms are rather ambitiously named. I would say they are the minimum standard you’d expect from a good hotel these days. Comfortable and adequate. Walls are a little thin, in terms of noise - which could be a problem if you have noisy neighbours. Also cheap and nasty toilet paper which takes the edge of the ‘executive’ experience. Breakfasts were lovely and the staff attentive and friendly enough, though not always entirely on top of their game. Limited free parking is available on site though not always made clear to arriving guests, so you may find yourself needlessly paying £9 for 24 hour parking, over the road. Overall, a nice place to stay for a short break.

Super hotel, in a great location for most of Lincolns sites.

A lovely independent hotel, located near castle and cathedral. For high street shops its a trip up and down steep hill but worth staying near the top. My room had castle view, room has good amenities . Really enjoyable stay and I recommend staying here or visiting the bar or restaurant.

Lovely stay, attic room very nice but heating should have been turned on before we arrived on one of the coldest days of the year! It was very cold and took a while to warm up. Otherwise all lovely and breakfast was excellent, staff friendly. A great location for exploring old and new Lincoln! Would revisit

Staff were fanastatic polite ans courteous. Very nice well kept hotel.
A real shame that the service didnt finish on a high, last morning 1-forgot our breakfast order 2-breakfast arrived with burnt/cindered bacon 3-as it was New Years day and close to the end id breakfast service, we didnt point out the obvious, we left the bacon and ate the rest, i said to the server it should not have been put on the plate. And an apology would have sufficed.
She said sorry.

Little things matter, ignorance matters, we will try the white swan next.

Lovely hotel! Our room had views of the cathedral. Shower amazing! The perfect end was a delicious breakfast. Highly recommend
