Far Exceeded Expectations
Pros:

This hotel was absolutely perfect for our 5-night stay in Kyoto. The room was large and luxurious -- it surpassed the standards of even much more expensive hotels in which I have stayed. Staff were beyond helpful -- no request was too much, even when it required quite a bit of their time (especially with 8 of us in 4 rooms, we often had diverse requests). The Reception Staff remembered all of our names and greeted us every time we left or entered. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Cons:

Breakfast was interesting but not necessarily to my taste. The choice of a "Western" breakfast was somewhat of a misnomer. But there were always delicious croissants.

Overall a brilliant stay
Pros:

Perfect location in Gion, close enough the the main area of Kyoto but in a nice quiet location close to old town. The room size was great and the balcony an added bonus. The bathroom and separate toilet were a great added feature and the bed was exceptionally comfortable.

Cons:

No option of checking in early. We flew in at 5am, trained to Kyoto and had to wait until 3pm. I understand the time needed to clean etc as I’ve worked in hotels, but if the request comes through it would be nice to be considered for early check in rather than a flat out no just because of policy.

Perfect!
Pros:

The staff were very helpful and the location was perfect for exploring the Gion District on foot plus perfect train and bus connections to get you to other parts of Kyoto.Plenty of wonderful restaurants near by to have Dinner. The room was perfect for a long stay - plenty of room -plus a view across the river.
