We have stayed at The Feathers on several occasions over the years and eaten there often, usually well.. The hotel is historic so bedrooms are quirky - part of the attraction. Free parking at the hotel, when available, is a bonus. The location is very central in this lovely market town.
On this occasion our dinner was disappointing, very poor compared to previous experiences. I hope this is a temporary 'blip' and the bistro returns to its earlier standard.
The historic building lacks a lift so rooms on the 2nd floor involve a testing climb for older or less athletic people.
Well situated, free parking and meals were good.
Small room, small bed, not sufficient Fire Exit signage (bothers me)
Location was good in the middle of town. Nice bar and restaurant and bathroom was well appointed.
On arrival receptionist was on the phone and did not acknowledge us for many minutes. Room was small and a bit cramped at the top of the building with no elevator.
Interesting decor. Pleasant atmosphere. Good location.
Choice of evening meals not very inspiring.
The breakfasts were really good and we had a very nice evening meal on our first night. The staff were all very helpful and pleasant too
Our room was very warm and the window only opened a couple of inches which made it hard to let some cooler air in. This made sleeping a little uncomfortable.
Comfortable room. Good location and friendly staff
Nothing
Very friendly and welcoming and spotlessly clean.
Breakfast was superb with fabulous quality ingredients as was the evening meal.
Friendly staff throughout the hotel which was very dog-friendly.
Beautiful building and comfortable room.
General high quality hotel. Staff first class. Individually couldn't be more helpful.
Breakfast was absolutely first class. Evening meal not so good with severely undercooked vegetables.
Excellent service and facilities with room cleanliness outstanding
On site car parking is a nightmare due to extremely difficult access. Access from the front of the Hotel was apparently discontinued last year but it would have been much easier!
Town centre location
Car park was difficult to find and access, It was annoying that directions and instructions/map were not available in advance .
The carpark entrance is a challenge but driving slowly and carefully you can overcome it's narrowness. Reception staff were very helpful and courteous. Our second floor room was very well equipped, roomy and spotlessly clean and it's sloping floors enhanced the age of the property.
The property oozed character and was in keeping with the local environment. Staff were attentive, courteous and very helpful. The bar and restaurant were delightful and both the drinks and food menu's substantial. Our meals were well presented, substantial and of the highest quality.
This is a place to return time and time again.
A beautiful, historic hotel in a very interesting town. The location was right in the town centre, enabling us to explore the town with all its history and information. The staff were helpful and friendly, the food was good and the room was lovely. There are some parking spaces at the hotel, accessed by a very tight entrance, presumably used by coaches in former days. There is a public car park behind the hotel which has charging points for electric cars.
Very welcoming and helpful. Little touches in the bedroom such as the radio which was on when we arrived. Excellent food
There was nothing we didn't like
Old stylecharacter
Noisy extractor on the roof during the day, but turned off during the night
