This is a TRUE homestay experience - you're living with Amina and her family, not in a separate apartment, which creates a wonderfully warm and personal atmosphere if that's what you're seeking. Amina was incredibly hospitable from the moment I arrived - clearly exhausted and sweating after the brutal uphill walk from the bus station through the medina (the blue maze!), she immediately offered me water, made me fresh coffee, and gave me cake. Her kindness and attentiveness throughout my three-night stay made all the difference, especially when I got sick on day two and she brought breakfast to my room.
Speaking of breakfast - this was my favorite included breakfast of my entire month-long trip. Served on a beautiful rooftop terrace, it included different breads, eggs, olives, goat cheese, marmalade, almond butter, fresh orange juice, and excellent coffee. The setting was cold but absolutely stunning.
The room was charming and small, with a clean private bathroom and a heater that worked great - I was always warm. WiFi worked fine. Amina's husband took me on a tour of Chefchaouen, including helping me find a pharmacy when I was getting sick, which I really appreciated. The price felt fair for the intimate homestay experience.
Chefchaouen itself is gorgeously photogenic - I took tons of photos, including so many of the cats that I made a calendar from them!
Good to know: The walk from the bus station is a serious uphill trek, and the location is very hilly with lots of stairs. After long days of exploring, the maze-like streets can be disorienting - I got lost one night trying to find my way back. This is absolutely part of Chefchaouen's charm, but come prepared for a workout.
The biggest issue was the streetlight shining directly into the room through sheer curtains, making it very difficult to sleep. Blackout curtains would completely solve this problem and would be a worthwhile investment.
There was only one roll of toilet paper provided, which meant I had to ask for more - it would be better to stock extras in the room.
OVERALL:
If you're looking for an authentic Moroccan homestay experience with a genuinely caring host and incredible breakfast, this is a wonderful choice. If you prefer privacy and independence, you might want to look for a self-contained apartment instead. Just be ready for the hills and bring your own blackout sleep mask for the light situation!
So beautiful & design of the rooms was perfection. Great host. Center of it all but up a quiet ”street” aka stairway so nicely located.
Up a lot of stairs but then you get a great rooftop view. But if you have bad knees not for you.
Amira is a wonderful woman! Thank you for all
Estaba congelado...hacia mucho frio!!
Beautiful house, very friendly, respectful and careful host!
All was perfect!
Don't miss the rooftop and the chillout area there.
We loved the Moroccan style room and bathroom as well as the hall for breakfast.
