Big room

It was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was modern
Check in on site is only open for one hour. This is ridiculous. You have to email the hotel in advance to get a PIN. I did not really have the possibility to call them since my SIM was not working which made the whole process frustrating. Personnel was far than empathetic. The outside of the hotel rooms is rather shabby
location is good, check in is smooth
I had a very frustrating experience with the hotel’s communication and service.
One day before check-in, I received a message through Booking asking me to send a copy of my ID by email in order to check in after 3:00 pm. They also asked how I wanted to receive the instructions. I replied as requested, but the next day I received nothing.
I had to follow up again via Booking message and email. I clearly stated that I wanted the information through Booking messages, but they ended up sending it to my phone instead. It makes no sense to ask for preferences if they are going to ignore them.
I live in Germany and was traveling in Australia, so I do not have constant mobile internet access. This is exactly why I asked to receive the information via Booking messages. When you are on vacation, you also want to disconnect and not depend on your phone all the time.
If this information is required, it should be requested at least three days in advance, not at the last minute, causing unnecessary stress for guests.
During my stay, the hairdryer did not work. I went to reception during the stated hours, but no one was there. I sent a message through Booking requesting a replacement, but my message was completely ignored. However, they did send me a message asking me to inform them when I checked out, which I did.
Overall, the service was very poor. Messages were ignored or answered too late, which made the experience unnecessarily stressful.
The room itself was nice and easy to move around. The bathroom was modern and clean. Each room had a TV and air con, which worked well, however there was only one remote to share between both rooms.
My low score is due to management’s response and lack of care during our stay. Prior to arrival, I specifically confirmed wheelchair accessibility to the rooms, which the hotel assured us was available.
Within 30 minutes of checking in, the elevator broke down. No notices were displayed, and we were advised that the required part would not arrive until after our two‑night stay. This forced us to navigate four flights of stairs with two broken legs and a wheelchair.
We asked to be moved to a lower‑level room, however no alternative accommodation was available.
Management advised us we would receive compensation for the inconvenience. Nearly three weeks later, no communication or refund had been issued. When I followed up, I was told they had forgotten to contact me and that I would need to request compensation through Booking.com.
The compensation now being offered is less than 15% of the total cost, which I find unacceptable given the circumstances. If not for the assistance of my husband and father, I would have been confined to the ground floor for the duration of the stay.
Good location. Near South Melbourne markets, brewery and walking distance to DFO, Hamer Hall
Pub underneath rooms make it pretty noisy on some nights
Sauber, guter Ort, nettes Personal
Kein Room Service
Kein 24h Reception
Clarendon Hotel had everything we needed for a base for the formula 1 weekend at Albert Park. Easy walk to the track and lots of food options close by. Didn’t see any staff or guests apart from at check in. Very easy check in/check out process. If you’re looking for a comfortable stay without the bells and whistles of a hotel, this is a great choice.
Always a great stay...thank you
All good but would love a toaster if possible
Great location for F1 weekend
Room was dark
Elevator not working. No reception person available , check-in is therefore by phone!
Rooftop bar and 1st floor restaurant permanently closed although hotel website shows photos like they are still there!
Easy way to make my appointment on schedule
Nothing all excellent
Location was so convenient for our train out of Southern Cross, just 15 mins on a tram that stopped across the road from the hotel. And surprisingly quiet considering how busy that area can be!
Very comfortable beds and lovely clean ensuite. Very handy to the pub which has great meals. The only downside was the elevator as it was only working sometimes.
Elevator not working some of the time.
The room itself was very spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. However, we had several maintenance and management issues during our stay.
The tap in the bathroom fell off on first use, and the tap in the kitchenette was also broken. In addition, the bathroom door locked itself twice without us intentionally locking it, which left us locked out. When we contacted the manager, we were advised to use a knife to fix the lock ourselves, which was quite concerning.
Staff were not present on site, and the room is located above a busy pub with live music and below a rooftop bar. Guests and bar patrons use the same lift and staircase to access the rooftop bar as those going to the rooms, which made the environment busier and noisier than we expected.
While the room size and bed comfort were positives, the maintenance issues and lack of response or apology for the problems we raised left us disappointed overall.
