Price not as booked
Pros:

My son and I arrived at 10:30 pm and they did not have our reservation. They found us a room. The next morning as I went to pay them $35 for a room for 2 as I had booked (and had paper work to prove). They told me that that was the wrong price. It was $35 for one and $50 for 2. I showed them that it said differently on my paperwork. We were leaving to climb Kilimanjaro that morning and had planned to stay there on one night after the week long climb. I gave them $40 and said we would sort it out when I got back. On our second night there, they insisted that $50 was the correct price. They said they had an orphanage they were funding. I paid a total of $100 for two nights . I have never before been told to pay more when I arrived at a hotel. I was not sure of the protocol in a foreign country. We worked it out that they would give us a free dinner (which they got the order wrong for my son) and would have cost us $8 otherwise. When we returned home a couple weeks later, I noticed that they are still advertising the wrong prices. I emailed them a week ago and told them to correct their prices on the internet to be a hotel of integrity. They thanked me for the suggestion but have not done anything to correct it. It has been a month since we stayed (Aug 23 7 29. The facilities were gated with nice looking buildings and landscaping. It felt safe. The people who worked there seemed nice other than the dispute over the correct cost. No shower curtain, wet bathroom.

Basic amenities before or after hiking kilimanjaro
Pros:

Very basic amenities, clean rooms but the shower in the bathroom leaked and we had no hot water. Friendly caretakers

Would stay again!
Pros:

This is my second time staying at Kili Cottages and it is consistently excellent for longer and shorter stays. The staff is extremely kind and helpful and the facilities clean and spacious. They have reliable internet, hot water, and air conditioning. It’s also an easy bus or taxi ride to town, where there are excellent restaurants, shops, and outdoor markets.
