I would not recommend this hotel 😏

It’s trying to be a high end hotel but failing. It’s just a bit run down, everything is just a bit tatty. Beds were made with no blankets, the AC is either on with windy ice or off, there is no in between, lights flickering, dripping AC. Unfortunately the pictures are heavily filtered and do not reflect reality. The restaurant has had a face lift and is lovely - the rest of the property has just not been kept up, the toiletries provided were not labelled and not good quality. The pool water tasted really odd and walls around the pool were cracked and damaged needing a lick of paint.

The first morning of our stay there was an incessant doorbell ringing along our corridor then a ring at our door and a male member of staff behind the door, who apologised when I opened the door and abruptly left.

I wouldn’t have minded if it were a cheaper hotel, but at $650USD for a family of four for 3 nights I was expecting more. We had had much nicer accommodation outside of Jaffna for a fraction of this cost. We went for dinner at the Fox Resort which is a similar price bracket but on a completely different level (was fully booked when we were looking for Jaffna accommodation).

The positive was the staff. They were all very nice and as lovely as they could be and the food was excellent, with a good breakfast. The young, sweet, keen waiting staff looked nervous and scared of their older supervisors in the restaurant, though.

I've rated the hotel as fair rather than negatively as I do appreciate that Jaffna is only recently post conflict and staff are really trying hard, the poor upkeep/modernisation of the building is likely more a reflection of this.

Amazing staff and very clean room. Food at buffet was soo good. If you worried about eating out, the buffet has all the traditional foods and is safe to eat.

The overall facility & location was very good.

Het zwembad was fijn en mooi omgeven door groen en bloemen en personeel was erg aardig.

Propre et bien situé. Chambres confortables. Personnel adorable. Bon restaurant pour petit déjeuner, déjeuner et dîner.

Good stay for Jaffna. Breakfast was good, rooms comfortable. Always good to have clean rooms after hot and hectic days in Jaffna surroundings

Das Servicepersonal und ebenso Reinigungskraft waren sehr nett. Das ganze Personal beim Frühstücksbuffet/ Bar war super freundlich und zuvorkommend uns gegenüber, was wir sehr schätzen, da wir mit einem Kleinkind unterwegs sind. Das Zimmer entsprach meinen Vorstellungen für gegebene Standards und war komfortabel.
Das tamilische Essen am Buffet und a la carte hat mehr als gut geschmeckt. Auch die Auswahl war gut.

NorthGate Jaffna is located extremely close to the railway station. There are stores and restaurants nearby. All the city attractions are an easy Tuk-tuk distance. Our room attendant was wonderful. He took great care of us and at the level of need we are comfortable with, which is to leave us alone unless we request an item and only one good cleaning in a week. His name is Subotia, 5th floor. Very respectful. The breakfast can meet the needs of most cultures. The regular menu is good also. The size of the room is wonderful. The balcony looks out on the railroad. We enjoyed watching the trains.

Hotel restaurant and breakfast was great. Staff were helpful and attentive. Rooms were spacious. The pool was lovely to swim in and Jaffna town centre was in very close proximity.

Location, friendly staff and good speed of buffet.

Northgate Jaffna was such a delightful hotel. The room was absolutely enormous with a. balcony that overlooked the historical Jaffna rail station. We were walking distance to great landmarks like the Jaffna library and St Mary’s Church. The hotel buffet breakfasts were superb and had all the traditional Tamil options. We ate healthy, delicious and sustaining cuisine every morning. The staff were friendly and professional and I loved their vivid green uniforms. I highly recommend Northgate Jaffna.
