A lovely hotel with an amazing restaurant. Excellent for a special occasion.
Visually the place makes a very good impact. Dinner, the food was excellent as were the staff.
Breakfast … we’d booked it at check in. We turned up to breakfast and there was nothing booked , the service at breakfast was okay , we did have to case up something.
But overall we had a very good stay and would return.
Delightful stay at a charming hotel where the staff and facilities are second to none!!
Will definitely be returning.
5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great hotel in a beautiful location. Good restaurant and wine menu
The feedback given here was also discussed with management when we left. The hotel needs to decide how to prioritise guests that are staying at the hotel, as in our opinion unfortunately an event is #1, ‘locals’ coming for the day #2, then guests a distant #3. I think this hotel would be a perfect spa break for midweek and a 5 score. Hotel was so busy that on saturday there was nowhere for guests to sit as bad weather. Food is excellent. Hotel, spa and setting the same. Spa should be free though for residents! Friendly service staff, albeit quite young.
A physically beautiful and comfortable hotel & Spa with friendly and courteous staff but a real lack of Management 'presence'.
Complaint re rug trip hazard in bedroom never was dealt with in the 4 nights we were there. Room was not serviced at all on one day.
No robe or towel was available on 1 of 2 visits to the Spa - had to fish a robe out of dirty linen basket.
Food was tasty but too elaborate - did not recognise veg served with the plaice, which was the only main fish dish, other than a pasta one. Menu never changed.
Dining staff were very pleasant but inattentive.
No obvious system for feeding back comments direct to the hotel.
Not good value for money.
Fantastic night stay and use of Spa facilities.
The Marquis is of very high standard, exceptionally clean and well maintained throughout. Appeared recently decorated and decorated very tastefully.
Our room was spacious and very comfortable bed with lovely robe and slippers. Air con was great in the heatwave too. Had a very comfortable sleep.
Food and drink were of a very high standard. We had dinner and breakfast. To enjoy eating on the outside upper terrace was wonderful and the views were stunning.
The spa was so clean and luxurious. Indoor and outdoor pool and very soft loungers. Nice robes and large soft towels. Modern drinks area with hot and cold drinks and really clean changing facilities with Dyson hairdryers.
All the staff were absolutely amazing, helpful, polite and friendly. Especially Joanna at the front desk, Charlie in the spa and Joshua in the restaurant to name but a few that made for a brilliant stay.
Will definitely be returning.
A five star stay.
Beautiful hotel set in stunning location
Visited the restaurant for my husband’s birthday. The staff were very helpful with my food intolerances, very informative. The burger was overcooked though, pretty dry, hard and tasteless. I was offered a free dessert, which was delicious! It didn’t feel as good as when we visited last year. Beautiful location and views.
Lovely hotel, modern and clearly lots of investment. Nice gardening on grounds, comfortable beds and clean bathrooms. Enjoyed the dining and bar areas. Helpful staff
Went for Sunday afternoon tea. Food was brought out quickly and tasted fine, however sandwiches and scones were dry. Drinks order didn't arrive twice and wrong milk was brought to the table. Waiter didn't ask for our tea order and had to be repeatedly flagged down for orders. Not up to the standard of a supposed high end venue. Suspect there's a staffing/ management issue. Would like to give it another try, but won't be recommending.
We went for Sunday lunch as a family, 2 adults, 2 children. Restaurant was very busy. We were told we could have some drinks on the terrace as we were early. We sat out there and it was empty, only for staff to be stood talking, we had to go and ask for menus etc, go and ask again for another drink etc. Staff are quite young and quite unattentive and oblivious to people’s needs it seems.
Food was nice, however restaurant is quite cramped, felt like we were out to dinner with the people next to us! Beautiful setting and building, just needs to get the service better in my opinion. We will return and give it another go but I am in no rush…
I had booked a session in the spa followed by an early supper with a friend.
The spa is elegant and well run.
However we couldn’t really enjoy the outdoor pool as a loud and pretty drunk bunch of youngsters was out on the balcony above the pool. It felt odd with them looking down on us.
We had been looking forward to our meal. We were lead to a table, but the seat and floor was covered in broken up bread roll and chips under the table. The waiter brushed the bread off the seat and gestured for me to sit down. I said I didn’t want to sit at a table with food all over the floor. He went to get a brush and we asked to be seated at another table rather than stand there, with only one table in use.
However I could see the ripped lining of the banquets hanging down to the floor and the corners had stuffing coming out. Really very tatty.
I counted 8 FOH staff not doing much when the restaurant was essentially empty, but no one had swept under the tables since lunch service.
All the staff said ‘cheers’ as they left the table. It seems like there’s been no training.
Untrained staff and tatty grubby furniture
I certainly wouldn’t go back.
Lovely stay for the 1st day of married life, beautiful venue amd room
We had a lovely stay at the Marquis, our suite was lovely and had a private west facing balcony so we watched a lovely sunset over the river.
Dinner was excellent, as was the wine, highly recommended.
Staff were all really friendly and helpful.
excellent stay especially meal in the cellar thankyou.
Where to start.. thankyou to all the staff at the marquis you are all brilliant. We felt incredibly welcome from the moment we turned up. We was taken to our room which was so so beautiful. Our balcony overlooked the outside pool and we had front row seats for a beautiful sunset. The restaurant is stunning with a country side feel. The food was amazing, highly recommend the duck starter and steak main. We was absolutely stuffed and sadly couldn't order desert. The staff also kindly gave us a congratulation dessert to share with a glass of champagne each which was really a nice touch. We both slept like logs, the pillows are very comfy and the bed was nice and firm. The next day we got ready for breakfast, again that was very tasty and cooked lovely. Afterwards we indulged in the spa facilities. The full body massage was a dream, we both felt so chilled and relaxed. Afterwards we went and sat round the stunning pool, we used the jacuzzi and sauna. We truly felt amazing after our stay with The Marquis. We will absolutely be returning. Cant wait to come back and stay. Thankyou for everything. Olivia and Matt :) x
Omg amazing Spa/overnight stay. The attention to details amazing & nothing too much trouble for friendly staff.
The Spa was fantastic, hot & cold drinks on tap. Good secure dressing room.
Went with group of friends & really could not fault it. Treatments were amazing & staff so efficient & friendly.
All meals excellent & vegan/vegetarian menu had very good choices.
Really couldn’t fault it at all. Will definitely visit again.
Poor service. Arrived 1245pm ignored at bar whilst staff argued how to make a Bloody Mary. Some kind of shift manager swooped in handed bar maid a few drinks orders who repeatedly moaned about this once manager had gone. Not professional. Headed to reception to see if we could use bar at other end, was treated by a petite blonde lady who had a mouthful of her lunch and tried to explain the lack of bar service was due to event taking place. Not sure if this really is a customers problem surely more staff when an event is taking place. Time 1.15pm still no drink. 2nd bar staff couldn’t find the Pinot Blush so went off to find it 1.25pm we left. Still no drink. An utter disgrace for a so called high end venue. Venue itself it’s beautiful but serious lack of attentive professionalism amongst the staff is evident and really needs addressing. The attitude of the short blonde lady in reception who we had clearly disturb her lunch was appalling. Front of house no way! She should not be in a job in a venue of this level.
Burns night. It was fairly busy.
Family of four. We are placed on a table of six, felt sorry for the couple who wanted to be on their own.
Service so slow. Seated at 7pm, starter at 8.10. Mains just after 9, lukewarm. Walked out at 10.15 with no sign of dessert.
Food was brought out by table numbers, so 17 got their starter as table 1 had easily finished.
Music a joke. Speakers had blown half way through the evening.
Bagpipes did a lap of honour to welcome the haggis. Then he was gone.
The food was quality but was not worth that wait.
Settled bill, was smiled at and acknowledged it was slow service.
If you can’t deal with it, don’t do it.
The lift was broken. So a 70yr old asthmatic was pushed to their limits.
The noise in the dining area just echoes around a lovely space. So it’s deafening after everyone’s had a drink.
I’m young enough to deal with it.
But most wouldn’t.
