Perfect stay
Pros:

Everything was awesome! Comfortable room, great views, great location, great staff, beautiful thangkas in the lobby. One of the days, we had Danny take us on a trip to Youning temple - he was super nice and hospitable; we also struck up some great conversation and he taught us a lot about the local culture :)

Pros:

This hotel was almost perfect. The room size is good, with a nice bathroom with big bath tub. All rooms are on high floors, so you get a great view of the city - even if the cityscape isn't a particularly pretty one.

There's an excellent breakfast with a mix of western food and Chinese food, including noodle stations, pancake stations, etc. I never expect hotels in China to speak English, especially not somewhere so few foreigners visit like Xining, but was pleasantly surprised to discover that most staff did speak English to a good level. They also gave us good local restaurant recommendations.

I didn't get a chance to use the gym or pool, but had a peak round the corner and was impressed by the quality of the facilities.

I don't think you'll find many five star hotels that are so affordable.

Cons:

As other people have mentioned, the room was hot. The air-con didn't work, and although a fan was provided the effect was limited. My partner and I aren't particularly sensitive about these things so it wasn't the end of the world, but even we found it noticeably warm. Weirdly, the corridor outside was cooler, so we occasionally left the door open to get some breeze, and we removed the duvet immediately from the bed and just slept with a sheet.

If you're somebody who likes a nice, cool room, I'd imagine this would be hell, but otherwise the hotel was great.

Modern hotel despite limited English spoken.
Pros:

Pleasant, newish hotel in Xining. All modern amenities. Unfortunately most of the staff spoke little or poor English leading to a couple of misunderstandings at times. Overal. Excellent stay

Pros:

We enjoyed our stay at Wanda Realm. The hotel was beautiful and the staff was extremely helpful. When we were looking for a particular wine, the manager went out of his way to help us find the right one. The staff spoke English, which was also helpful. The room was clean, comfortable and cool (other hotels we visited in China were a bit on the warm side). Overall we enjoyed our stay at the hotel and would recommend it to our friends.
