While I appreciate the hotel’s response to my complaint, I feel there’s no alternative now but to share my experience for other guests to see before they book this hotel.
Yes there was a storm and the weather was poor leading to power interruptions, but that does not excuse the way the situation was handled. I was left in a very cold room, and despite being provided with portable heaters, the conditions remained uncomfortable.
More importantly, what has not been addressed at all is that I was effectively told I could leave the hotel during the night, in severe weather, at the age of 71. This was extremely distressing and, in my view, unacceptable.
I did not feel cared for or supported as a guest. Regardless of external circumstances, a hotel has a duty of care to ensure guests feel safe and are treated with respect.
I hope the management reflects not just on the technical issues that evening, but on how situations like this are handled, particularly when dealing with older guests.
Unfortunately, this experience has left me unable to recommend the hotel and we will no longer visiting for meals there like we used to.
Lady in reception was exceptionally good

Food. Excellent and good value
The staff were so friendly, the food is amazing and the whole place has a nice feel to it for a solo female traveller
Nothing
Bed was comfortable. Very warm, glad they provided a fan.
Not a very nice welcoming smell to the room, shower was dreadful for an expensive room I would have expected more. Black mould in the bathroom.
We attended a family meal last week as relatives were visiting from Australia. The Pilgrim seemed like the perfect venue and setting and it was indeed! All the team made us feel very welcome and we all had a fantastic time, the food was served on time and was very tasty indeed. There were some awkward dietary requirements to deal with and the team far surpassed the level of care and attention expected and were very professional and informative on the ingredients used in each dish served.
Once we had finished our food in the separate function room which sat 40 of us very comfortably, we retired to the patio area for drinks as it was a glorious day and wow what a view. A perfect end to a perfect day.
Thank you and we will see you very soon.
Lovely friendly staff
Clean and comfortable
Delicious food
Location and scenery beautiful
Nothing we go every year
Really comfortable bed and good curtains blocking out all the sun. And a very nice selection of tea and coffee in the room.
We liked everything about the Pilgrim from the moment we walked in!! All the staff from reception to bar staff to restaurant staff were welcoming and helpful. The food was excellent in the dining room - good choices and well presented
NOTHING!!
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The location is lovely, surrounded by beautiful countryside and peaceful scenery. Our room was very spacious, with a comfortable double bed and a single bed, perfect for our family of three. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the hotel was very quiet, which made for a great night’s sleep. The beds were extremely comfortable. Overall, a fantastic stay and we would happily return.
Excellent food lovely room lovely location easy to get to lovely staff and an enjoyable comfortable stay. Hotel easy to find and great location.
Everything was great very comfortable and enjoyable stay
I like the pilgrim hotel, but dont buy an offer voucher there, an outside company runs this apparantly... and you have zero chance of making your reservation for a room or a meal , without an aweful lot of bother , phone calls and justv arghh !
Very Expensive for drinks no atmosphere ordinary service why would I like to take anyone there .Bar staff are ok but that’s about all .
Great location. Coffee was weak. Staff friendly and helpful.
