Location only
My stay at the hotel was far below expectations for several reasons:
First, I booked a room advertised as having a garden view. However, there was no actual garden; the view was disappointing and did not resemble what was presented during booking. When I requested a room change to a better view, I was charged an additional $40 per night instead of being offered a complimentary upgrade, especially considering that I stayed at the hotel for 15 nights.
Second, I was surprised that my room key card was repeatedly deactivated whenever the security deposit limit was reached, requiring me to increase the deposit amount to regain access to my room. I find this practice inappropriate and not in line with the level of service one would expect from a hotel of this standard.
Finally, more than two weeks have passed since my check-out, and the remaining balance of my security deposit has still not been refunded. This delay is unacceptable, and I would appreciate an immediate update regarding the status of my refund.
Overall, my experience did not meet the standards I expected, and I hope these issues will be addressed promptly.
Location was great
Access to my room from the elevators was a bit far
It great they saved this historic hotel and re modeled it to a high manner. Great central location and excellent restaurant.
Rien
Horrible experience. We booked a room at the Birks for the night of our wedding. The day before, we specifically dropped off our luggage and confirmed with staff that there would be no issue checking in late, as we would be arriving around 3:00 a.m. after our reception.
When we arrived, exhausted after our wedding, we were refused access to our room because there was no credit card on file. My wife was still in her wedding dress and I was in my tuxedo — neither of us had our wallets on us. I offered to use Apple Pay on my phone and place a charge as a security deposit, but the front desk clerk refused and said it was not possible.
We spent over 30 minutes arguing at the front desk on what was supposed to be one of the happiest nights of our lives before finally being allowed into our room. By that point, we were exhausted, stressed, starving, and completely disappointed.
To make matters worse, when we later tried to order room service, we were denied again because there was still no card on file.
This was an incredibly frustrating and disappointing experience, especially at a hotel like the Birks, where you would expect a much higher level of service and care. The most upsetting part is that we had proactively come the day before specifically to avoid any issues like this, and were reassured there would be no problem.
