Pros:

given an upgrade - the room was fine

Cons:

in a convenient city centre location; hoever this meant a high levle of noise and windows were on;y single glazed and in a mediocre conditin with one opening window not completely closing.

Tired and sad but adequate as somewhere to sleep.
Pros:

Although I was travelling alone I was allocated room 24, a large family room at the back of the hotel with a huge double bed (2 singles fixed together), plus a single bed and a camp bed, so the room was spacious. The bedding and towels were lovely and clean and white. The bin was emptied every day and the pillows rearranged! It had a sea view, including the pier. There was an excellent Italian restaurant a couple of doors down and a superb Indian restaurant a couple of doors up the street where I ate on the the second and third nights. Wetherspoons is just a bit further up the street so I was able to get breakfast an hour before the hotel started breakfasts.

Cons:

The whole place was just sad and tired, and there didn't seem to be many, if indeed any, staff or other guests most of the time. When I visited the bar/restaurant on the first night neither handpump had real ale on and I was told that most of the items on the menu were unavailable because the oven was broken. I was told that breakfast didn't start until 9am (as it is now 'winter') which was much too late for my needs. In my room the wallpaper was pealing off in some places and there was plaster damage caused by water ingress. The bathroom had bits coming away and the curtains were rotted. The carpet was grubby and stained. The furniture was battered and marked. The bath tap was worn out and it was extremely difficult to regulate the temperature of the shower for anything between icy cold and absolutely scalding. Although the room was generally quiet, there was a disco or party on the Saturday night, with music thumping directly below my bed for some time after I had gone to bed. The heating seemed to cut in at exactly 0400 and 0600, but despite some very enthusiastic gurgling there was no heat and the room was generally a little on the chilly side. There was a very sad faded picture.

In my personal opinion the bed was very uncomfortable, about knee height off the floor for someone whos 5ft 7. Didnt really get a good night sleep my whole stay due to this reason

Window jammed open Room 8 has a Tiny bathroom with elderly looking shower toilet too low door that was hard to open room door looked cheap dirty stained carpet no double glazing so could here loud drunk people outside hotel till v early hours ivu growing inside the windows on the staircase outside of hotel looked on poor condition no oferof breakfast or evening meals either
