This old hotel is a legend in our e house defying all attempts at modernization or change . It’s not any better on this visit . The teenage staff mostly with some old hands are Loverly . Mostly not around but really nice bunch . The room was huge with badly decrepit windows one of which I managed to open as it was 30 degrees. The fan I was given was a tiny office fan which did nothing . No AC No lift . .i never have breakfast there.

Location for both the FastCat transfer and Festival shuttle bus was excellent. Also surrounded by lots of places to eat, shop and walk and very close to the sea! The building and decor was a bit tired but not to the detriment of our stay! The staff were always friendly & very helpful and there was a nice vibe to the whole place - great beer garden too!
Not enough power sockets in the room although fortunately my friend had brought an extension lead! No hairdryer which was a surprise! Strange “low down & high up” layout…the tv and mirrors were all very low down and the bathroom especially the WC were higher than the bedroom…very quirky but again not detrimental to our stay!
Nothing
Room wasn't in main hotel it was across main road opposite hotel and a old building below a ladbrooks betting shop. Noise and dirty.
It was very nice for a 2 hundred year old property the rooms were very clean and spacious we had a little problem and the management went above and beyond to sort it out . I would definitely stay there again
I liked everything about the property
Location, staff pleasant. Fan in room.
Attic room 3 flights stairs no lift. One blind
broken on rooflights
Great location, plenty of bars, shops and restaurants on the door step. Lovely lady on reception let us check in a bit earlier, a nice young man took our luggage to the room and we got a fan for the room as it was so hot. The room has everything you could need tea/coffee and a selection of biscuits. Toiletries in the bathroom.
Lovely large bath sheets. Bed and pillows were comfortable.
Cheap, beds were ok
No headboards on beds, sheets marked, States can cater for gluten free, advised them upon. Checkin i was gluteb free, was going to order a steak and flat out refused to serve me as i have coeliacs. Please dont offer gluten free and then tell the customer you wont serve them. Wouldnt even serve me a gluten free sandwich which was on the menu!! Had to get a sandwich meal deal from down the road wheb i was wanting a warm meal.
Good locale and mostly helpful staff except for making available the listed laundry facilities. They provided a lock-up for a bicycle on request.
The price asked for me to wash and dry a load of laundry was twice the local launderette.
Nothing
The windows that couldn’t open or close. Filthy dirty with dead trailing ivy blowing in and out. The peeling paint, water marks, noise from outside, stains on the carpet, wall and furniture. The hairdryer that would have caused a fire if I attempted to use it, the coffee, tea and sugar bowl that someone had very kindly filled with water so we couldn’t use. The dirty bed side table’s. The lamp shades that were falling apart. The dirty towel left on the back of the bathroom door, the hair left in the shower wall. The doors that wouldn’t close unless locked. The net curtains that were stained and ripped. The window that was stuck open next to a bed where you could literally roll from the bed out the window. Nice touch when you have a family room!! No Label to prove any electrical item had been electrically testing and fit for purpose. The view below of mobility equipment that looked like it had been dumped along with other furniture and rubbish. And to top it off no one available at check out to speak to regarding the multiple issues found.
staff were very friendly & helpful. room was lovely & clean
i was right at the.top up a very narrow winding staircase. lots of stairs involved to get to my room
The guy at reception seemed friendly.
It’s falling apart, windows stuck open or won’t open. Stained walls, floor ,Bedding and furniture.
Bathroom floor felt like it may fall thought at any point. No thermostat on shower, went from burning you to freezing you, furniture ripped, bathroom filthy, sealant strips nailed to the bath and covered +++++ in dust. Paint peeling from walls and ceiling. Very rickety table holding a tea tray including a kettle.
Found a Fan marked as Don’t remove from reception in the wardrobe, thank god we did as it was boiling hot and we couldn’t open the windows bar the bathroom one that I couldn’t work out if the window pane may actually be missing. Or just stuck open.
Should include breakfast
Towel
Location was great had a great explore of the town & shoreline.
They only had one real important job to get right, I was with my mate so wanted a 2 single bed room,
When we got back to the room it was a double but couldn’t be bothered to try and move.
When we got to the hotel we were a bit dubious about staying there because it does need some TLC but the young man that checked us in was absolutely delightful (sorry I didn’t get your name) and any other staff we encountered were lovely. We had booked two rooms - a single and a double. Room 36 was the double and turned out to be more of a suite with a comfy sofa and a choice of two TVs! The single room - Room 5 - however was tiny and a little grim and was only about £12 cheaper than the double room. (The young man on reception had changed the original booking from a top floor room to a lower floor room because it was so much cooler - great customer service and much appreciated). Would we stay here again? Most definitely. It’s good value for money, staff are friendly and it’s in a great location.
It’s tired and needs a coat of paint/redecoration.
The room was ok
Bathroom dusty. The side of the stairs is dusty and very poor parking
the staff were very friendly
our room was in total need of refurbishment, ceiling exposed to roof space and brown stains...furniture filthy..bathroom like a rough hospital room..who does clinging shower curtains anymore?
Only was a bed for the night so wasn't prepared to inspect the bed or probably wouldn't have slept!
On 3rd floor and raging hot..£225 for this room without breakfast 😑
Location
Needs updating to be honest
Staff were lovely
Easy to find two mins from ferry
Very old very creaky floor boards
