The suite was very good. Lovely & spacious with quality fixtures & fittings, on the whole a lovely room.
Breakfast was very poor. When paying for a suite in a 5* hotel, I don’t expect to use a breakfast buffet that is open to the other hotels around it and also the general public. Self service coffee? I never once stayed in a 5* hotel and have to get my own coffee at breakfast, and sit with dirty plates in front of us for 30 minutes after we’d used them.
The Gym in the Darling is also very poor. Barely any equipment at all. Luckily we could use the gym in the neighbouring star hotel which was far better equipped.
The penthouse was very accommodating in size
With the technology we have available to us I was surprised on how outdated the TV's were, when I stayed at the old Hyde Park Inn in Sydney, the TV's there were more high tech than the Darling at the Star casino GC
Some staff made you feel less than welcome and when I enquired about an item that I had left behind, there was no mention of we'll make sure to let all staff involved to see if anything has been found or handed in , all I got was, you'll just have to fill out a police report; polite way of saying we really couldn't give two bit's about your loss
First time to the Gold Coast and didn't think much of the place and felt that I went back in time 70 year's and staying at the Darling Star casino made me wish I booked a caravan in a park instead
With my booking there was allegedly $50 to go towards my stay and when I paid my bill there was no sign of any such deductions
I'm going to make sure to definitely that I won't be having anything to do with the Star casino and any of its affiliates
We received a free room upgrade to a penthouse suite despite booking a stellar suite which was lovely. The penthouse suite was huge with complimentary snacks and drinks (except alcohol which would cost extra). The staff were all very welcoming and helpful and the harvest buffet breakfast was delicious, lots of choices. There are multiple restaurants onsite / nearby the casino too. The rooftop pool was also very nice but I could imagine it being a bit too busy if the hotel was packed in the summer - however you do have access to multiple pools at each hotel nearby so maybe that would help. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much and would return.
Staying at the Darling you have to walk through the main casino floor at the Star to access some of the restaurants, the breakfast buffet, etc. which can be a bit annoying particularly later on as it gets busier and more drinks are flowing - but only if you're looking for peace and quiet of course. Otherwise it's no problem really, plenty of security onsite and a good atmosphere but lots of locals who I suspect only visit the casino for a night out rather than staying at any of the 3 hotels. Again not a major issue just something to keep in mind depending on what kind of holiday you're after. Our free upgrade to the penthouse suite was amazing, but the beds weren't the most comfortable in our opinion probably a 6/10. More space generally in the room than two people would ever need. We stayed in late May and it was still quite busy so I suspect in the summer the queues for restaurants will likely be a problem because they were quite long even in May.
Great room. Free valet. Free snacks and drinks.
Expensive. No spa. Coffee machine was broken. No indoor pool option
Spacious room
No restaurant available in the hotel. 5 minute walk to other hotel for Buffett restaurant which had poor quality of foods and too congested… Wouldn’t stay again.
