Great stop along a road trip
Pros:

Found a few hidden gems (Mespelbrunn Castle) after staying at the hotel, which was nice. Dinner at the hotel was great, as was the selection for the free breakfast.

Very enjoyable overnight stop - excellent value for money
Pros:

Another trip to Germany, another overnight stay in Gasthof zum Spessart and the wonderful breakfast is still one of the best we have had in Germany. So much delicious food with amazing choice. Good beer in the bar and tasty evening meal. Lovely spacious bedroom with balcony and big bathroom with very good shower. Pleasant staff (although you might need your German phrase book). Convenient for an overnight from the A3, but worthwhile staying a few days to explore the area - Mespelbrunn Castle and Aschaffenburg. Excellent value for money.

Just fine for our purposes
Pros:

Our room at the back of the hotel overlooking a wooded valley was perfectly pleasant and the beds comfortable though my partner found the pillows too high. The bathroom had a rather leaky shower (with three-part doors which were inclined to come off their runners but the shower itself was fine. All was clean if a bit dated and we ate a perfectly pleasant and reasonably priced meal. Breakfast was good. The dining room décor was classically Germanic and made us laugh - every table had a miniature gnome as decoration! All in all a nice hotel and good value

Lovely Hotel
Pros:

From the outside the Hotel looks like a local village hotel but inside the old and the new is blended together very well, with a traditional restaurant and bar alongside boutique hotel style rooms that have been renovated to a high standard - which makes for a comfortable and quiet nights stay. We had a lovely balcony with a great view across the village and hills. Unfortunately we couldn't enjoy the balcony or this lovely area as the weather was bad when we arrived and when we left, but it didn't make any difference as the hotel was warm and friendly and we enjoyed a lovely dinner and wine in the restaurant and a good breakfast. The hotel is convenient for the motorway but is in an attractive location and it was a very welcome stopover on a long journey to Vienna.

Charming old hotel with inadequacies
Pros:

This is an old hotel and it shows.
Big rooms with spartan furniture overlooking an unattractive roof. No airco, which is quite an omission. Wifi was out of use as well as the possibility to pay with a creditcard due to some malfunctioning.
Dinner and breakfast were OK, service was friendly and correct.

Do not Stay on a Monday
Pros:

We booked this as a stop over on a Monday night, big mistake. Booked over a week in advance on our arrival following a long drive the hotel was all locked up, we tried phoning no mobile signal, Tired and in a panic we drove around until we found another hotel the (Zum Engel beautiful hotel very helpful friendly staff) It seems our host takes Monday off, if and when you can contact him he gives you a key to the front door and room and you are on your own, restaurants closed but there is one up the road. It's a pity because everything else about the hotel is OK.

Stopover
Pros:

This hotel was recommended by friends as an excellent place to stop in Bavaria. unfortunately we managed to pick Monday night for our stay and the restaurant was closed. There is a really good pizzeria in the village though. We had a comfort room with balcony and a great view over the valley. Breakfast was superb! Staff were great and very friendly. We will definately use this again on our way to Austria.

Fabulous stopover
Pros:

While traveling in Germany we discovered this charming hotel. We stayed for one night and enjoyed it immensely. We enjoyed a delicious dinner and had a good nights sleep. We woke to an incredible breakfast which was included in the cost of hotel. The breakfast was fabulous from cooked eggs, bacon, sausage and all the European treats as German cold cuts, cheeses, spreads, homemade jams, assorted rolls, homemade coffee cakes, chocolates and a homemade cheesecake. The owners were gracious, friendly and enjoyed telling stories of their travels to America. The decor is warm and inviting. We left and travelled 10 minutes to the town's charming castle which is a must see! It's not huge but it is beautiful!

Peace and Quiet
Pros:

We arrived at this charming little hotel in the Spessart forrest, Bavaria after a drive from the ferry port in Holland. The hotel was easy to find a few miles off the main autobahn heading for Austria.
We were welcomed by a charming lady dressed in traditional Bavarian costume and pleasant attitude. After a welcoming chat and a beer our check in procedure was quick and easy and were allocated our room which was well furnished and spotlessly clean. it also had an outside balcony which ran the length of the room and also to the side as well. There was a table and chairs for sitting outside. The balcony overlooked the small town and forrest with the quiet atmosphere and the birds singing it was very relaxing.
After settling in we went down to the bar and restaurant which was all carved wood decored to a traditional hunting lodge style and well maintained.
We had a set two course meal in the restaurant at a very reasonable price of 14 euros.
The first course was a boullion style soup followed by a barbecue of various cuts and types of meat eg.suasage, pork, lamb, poultry and steak, there was no limit as to which you could pick and the steak especially was cooked to order and brought to the table when ready. There was also the traditional salad buffet which was varied with traditional bavarian cold meats and greens etc. followed by coffee. The whole meal was delicious and very enjoyable ater a long days drive. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the evening and eventually retired for a good nights rest.
Breakfast the following morning was the usual traditional selection of averything one expects with fruit, fruit juice, serials of most types, various breads, eggs and all one could eat with no limit and coffee or tea to request. All this at a very reasonable price was all we needed to break our long journey and very welcome stop over it was.
This hotel would be an ideal place to reside if one was on a touring holiday around the Bavarian countryside and we would have no hesitation of returning there to do just that.

Booked an overnight stay, wanted to stay longer
Pros:

We received a warm welcome, although we arrived very late. The room was spacious and the bathroom was well equiped (very soft towels). The bar and restaurant are decorated with real traditional wood and give a warm atmosphere. Nice breakfast (was included). Very reasonable price for a wonderful visit, one night or longer.

First stop Bavaria
Pros:

Close to the Autobahn in a lovely part of Bavaria we found this hotel. Very friendly & helpful staff, with excellent English spoken. Whilst the hotel has seen better days that is to no detriment of the overall stay. The room and bathroom was clean and a balcony which was nice to sit and drink a beer after a long journey. Dinner was excellent as was breakfast. Not far down the road you must visit the castle!

Nice Place to brake our journey
Pros:

We had good experience at this hotel. It is Family-Owned and it makes you feel at home. Confy rooms, clean, quiet and spacious for us. Good Breakfast (not included, but 5 euros is not expensive). Credit Cards are accepted and the owners speak english.

Great Place
Pros:

We stayed in this hotel for only one night in June 2011. The room was very clean and spacious. The restaurant had a very local crowd but it was very fun and interesting to have drinks with them. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying inthe Mespelbruun area.

Good service in a family run hotel
Pros:

Good location when you travel with the car. The nicest: absolutely friendly attitude of the hosts, their care about the decoration and positive ambience in the hotel and restaurant. Rooms are a bit dated, but it's ok if you come for business and just need it for sleeping: quite large and with balconies. The breakfast is perfect start of a succesful day: good choice of meats, fish, cheese, sweets, vegetables and drinks. Their restaurant is open until the last customer, but need to say people leave around 11 pm... And a hint: if you arrive after 10 pm, keep your keys with you and let the staff know about it otherwise they close the entrance at 10 pm.
