It was really fun to stay in a castle! They did a wonderful job renovating the lobby and restaurant. It was very charming and beautiful. It was nice to have breakfast included, and we appreciated the convenience of an on-site restaurant. This would be a wonderful place to host weddings or other large events (they have an extra dining room that can serve as as function room, and a wonderful glass-covered courtyard as well as an open-air courtyard). A surprise bonus is that the hotel is a short walk from a museum about Manchego cheese (you can learn about the process and also buy fresh cheese there). The town of Manzanares is lovely.
While our suite was charming, the layout was a bit odd. We entered into a living room with a full bath on that level. Our bedroom was upstairs, and there was a second living room upstairs (2 wicker chairs and a coffee table). We didn't mind the multiple levels in the suite, but would have appreciated a bathroom on the same level as the bedroom (although there was sink in the bedroom). Also, we didn't need a second living room on the upper level--I think they should put a bed in the extra upstairs room and call it a two-bedroom suite.
This wasn't a problem, but you have to enter the hotel by going through the restaurant--there is no direct access from the hotel lobby or courtyard to get outside.
Goede prijsverhouding.
It was remodelled keeping the medieval authenticity with modern commodities. Our room #5, did not have the sleeping loft but there was lots of room and a large rain shower. Nice traditional breakfast: tostada, jamón, coffee and fresh orange juice. Staff kindly accommodated our special requests. So happy we booked there for a night while travelling through.
We were confused about how to get in but I called reception and she came out to guide us.
