Staff upon arrival was very unwelcoming and unhelpful as if we were bothering them to check us in (including checking our pre-arrival questionnaire and confirmation email etc.). The apartment was not equipped for 4 people as the sofa bed was missing sheets/duvets/pillows, the shower amenities were empty and hairdryer didn't work. We were forgiving in asking for a replacement multiple times with some of these never coming in the end.

I booked this property for a birthday weekend. When we arrived, we were in a bit of a rush to get to an event. I hadn’t had the time to prefill the check in form so I was hoping I could do this at checkin. However, the computer system at the front desk was down so we were waiting for 10-15 minutes before we figured out to contact the hotel through booking.com. We were able to get assistance virtually. Once we got up to the room, the room was still being cleaned. It wasn’t a big deal but just further delayed us in getting ready and leaving for our event.

The only negative things were the shower and air conditioner. Air conditioner was too loud, it was impossible to sleep so I had to ask to turn it off. The shower didn’t have any curtains, the water splashing all over the bathroom isn’t very comfortable.

This was our second stay at Hotel 17John and, unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing, resulting in significant dissatisfaction.

We returned because of the good impression from our first visit and because we were planning to come back again in December, provided management reviewed what had happened. However, this time we encountered a series of problems that compromised the stay from the very beginning. At check-in, it was clear that the room had not been properly checked: towels, duvets, cutlery, and other basic items were missing, which forced us to contact the staff several times just to request the essentials.

In the bathroom, the situation was also lacking. There were two bottles of shampoo instead of shampoo and conditioner, and one of them was broken on the floor, which shows a lack of attention to detail and safety.

The most critical issue was the absence of blackout curtains, something essential for rest. It is natural to expect that a hotel provides a proper night’s sleep in line with the standard of other rooms. This directly impacted our sleep for two consecutive nights. The staff acknowledged the problem and moved us to another suitable room, which was positive, but the solution took longer than expected. The previous year we did not need to change rooms, as the room was excellent, which makes the lack of consistency during this stay even more evident. Later, we were informed that the original room had been fixed, reinforcing that the issue could have been avoided with a more careful prior inspection.

Another frustrating aspect was the issue of compensation. At first, the possibility of some form of compensation for the affected nights was mentioned, which seemed fair given the inconvenience. However, we were later informed that this would not happen, which further increased the feeling of neglect. In addition, management only responded a month after the stay, and only because we reached out.

The only thing that was rough about our stay was that our room had not been cleaned after we checked in. There were towels all over the bathroom floor, opened drink cans on the table, used tissue on the bedside table and the bed was completely unmade. We had to wait a little over an hour to get into the room. On a positive note, the staff was very helpful and kept checking on us.
