If I could put no stars I would.
Pros:

I've gone on holidays to Bridlington to treat the family due to them not going for a long time and wanted to treat them. So we got moved to this expanse apartment not going into the reason for the move as that is nothing to do with my stay here. So as I was saying when we got her there was no one to greet us and we was waiting 15 minutes before I got fed up of waiting and rang the original person we were supposed to be staying with, but we then had to wait a further 10 minutes. Now the beds for my family are extremely uncomfortable and for the past 2 nights he has had no sleep and resorted to the sofa which I assume is not much better. The fire alarm went off so we went outside and were stood there with a few others not knowing what to do, when what assume is the ower came he got out his car completely ignored the guests and just stormed inside leaving people stood outside guessing whats happening after about 20 mins we were allowed back in, even though the owers car was there he was no where to be seen and i was hoping he would come and check on everone and asked if they were ok but no he just did his checks and then drove off, We are on day 3 and it's now 7:30 am and we were woken by someone who thinks that it's ok to use a hedge trimmer well im sorry some people like to have a lie on their holiday not be woke up, I just feel its very inconsiderate and not fair all in all we still have till end of the week and so far I'm very very disappointed. Would never recommend this place to anyone.

excellent hotel in Bridlington
Pros:

What a lovely hotel this is and in such a good location in Bridlington. We enjoyed a 1 night stay here and found everything perfect. Our room was clean, comfortable and well equipped. my Mum and my Daddy went to this hotel to stay for 1 night and also to celebrate their wedding anniversary in October 2003 4 months before I was born in February 2004 and they loved it. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was reasonably priced and of good quality. Will definitely stay here again.

Great stay.
Pros:

We have just returned from the Expanse after a 4 night stay in the fabulous Crows nest apt. Panoramic viws of Bridlington and the beautiful cliffs, encountered a slight problem which was sorted by the lovely night porter Micheal.
We had a lovely time, granted the Hotel needs a bit of outside work doing but as the building is nearly a hundred years old one would expect this and not everything can be done at once. The staff are smashing and seem really happy in their work, I believe this is a sign of good management.
We have stayed at the hotel several times and have already booked for next year.

good stay but hotel very tired
Pros:

The Expanse is well situated about halfway between Sewerby and the town, a nice art deco hotel. Also attached to the hotel is the marine bar, which you can access through the hotel. we booked the superior Burlington suite on the 4th floor, the room is very spacious with floor-to-ceiling windows in the sunroom attached, there are 2 recliner settees, a large kingsize bed, a dressing table, and other various tables. from the sunroom and other windows, there are stunning sea and town views. now the downside of this room, on entering the door was loose on its hinges, the carpet needs relaying as it could be a possible tripping hazard for anybody with mobility issues, 1 of the settees was badly damaged and could not be reclined, the view was obscured by about 80% of the double glazing units had badly failed and was full of moisture. the dressing table and facility table which housed the fridge were badly watermarked and faded, even the tray that the 2 mismatched cups were on was old and badly faded. the bathroom is large and has a bath and a shower however the bath had 2 big chips in the enamel. overall we enjoyed our stay but felt that the superior room did not live up to its price tag, we paid £220 for the night with breakfast which was very good, but with the state of the room at the moment I would look to pay about£180. the hotel needs some serious renovation for the prices it's asking, would stay again if the upgrades were forthcoming.

Worlds apart
Pros:

This review is based on two separate rooms but one visit. Our first experience is based on a standard double room with sea view which we booked as part of the hotels summer sizzler offer. Positives include a very clean bathroom and an excellent sea view. Negatives include an extremely cramped room, which was old fashioned and grubby. Balconies which are unusable and not fit for purpose, small and cramped with ridiculously old furniture . Please don’t waste your money requesting. The standard price for this first room during our visit was an unbelievable 175.00 per night when not on summer sizzler offer. The hotel food was reasonable bordering on good but overpriced for what is was, in our opinion.
Room two:- superior double room with sea view..excellent no complaints, If all the rooms in the hotel were to this standard then all room reviews would be positive. It’s a real shame that the hotel has great rooms and sub standard rooms. The hotels dining room on the whole is very nice and majority of staff are lovely. The hotel itself would have been lovely in its hay day and still has some nice redeeming features, art deco lamps, light fittings but really needs a major overhaul both inside and out. The adjoining marine bar anlso owned by the hotel is great, good food great-friendly down to earth staff. Don’t judge from the outside which is so uninviting. The hotels website is horrendous, it needs a complete overhaul..you have no idea what type of room you’re booking, the photos are not up to date and reflective of what’s available.

Disappointing
Pros:

We have stayed at the Expanse many times as we have family in Bridlington. We have always enjoyed our visits which is why we return. Sadly, that is not the case for our most recent visit. We were on the 3rd floor, room 37. The room was noisy as there is a very large extraction fan right outside the window. We mentioned this to reception to be told it would go off when the kitchen closed late afternoon, which it did, only to resume at 6.30am! We had a terrible night as the room was hot and the two small windows wouldn't stay open! On checkout we politely mentioned our concerns to the receptionist who acknowledged them and said she knew about the problem with the window and the fan and suggested we should have asked to be moved! We had no idea the fan would start up so early and didnt realise the window was faulty until we were ready for bed. Unfortunately, another member of staff joined in the conversation, she was waring a black overall. This lady was very unpleasant and argumentative. We left after what should have been another good experience at the Expanse. Perhaps your member of staff needs customer care training? Hope no-one has the experience we had in room 37 and their away night ruined by a rude member of staff.

Fabulous, restful break...
Pros:

We had a couple of nights at The Expance, and as we haven't been for a while, we thought we'd treat ourselves. We had a lovely sea view room on the 4th floor (thank goodness there was a lift) with the room being on the end of the building, we had 2 aspects, one looking up the prom and one of the beach. As for parking, I have a Blue Badge which enabled me to park for free across the road for as long as I needed (as verified by a very helpful traffic warden) The room, 46, was spotless, the beds were very comfy the bathroom had a bath and separate shower and toiletries were included. We even had a safe and a fridge! The furniture was beautiful in Art Deco style with plenty of storage. The meals, we had B&B and Dinner, we're very tasty, served promptly by pleasant staff. All questions were answered. We both love this hotel and we will be staying again, hopefully in the not too distant future. For comfort and relaxation with a fabulous view, you'll go a long way to find better!
Thank you Espanse, we hope to see you again soon.

So good I am returning.
Pros:

My first visit to The Expanse. It was a recommendation from a friend so thought I would give it ago. Had 4 days and I cannot fault my four days. Had a great room on the third floor. Food was excellent and the staff were always very helpful and very friendly. I sometimes wonder why there are some negative reviews of this hotel.

In fact I had such a wonderful time I have booked to go back in September for 5 days and cannot wait to go back. Thank you Expanse for a great experience.

Disappointing Stay
Pros:

Disappointing first stay. Booked a twin with seaview and balcony just for one night.
The room was generally clean. The furnishings were very tired and some had damage. Carpet stained. Shower over the bath - impossible to control the temperature. Bed was comfortable. Bed linen looked clean. Toiletries were provided.
The balcony had a small table and chairs, the table had stale spilt coffee over it, spent cigarette butts on the balcony floor and stubbing outs on the balcony wall. I cleaned with my wet wipes but not really a pleasant place to sit although the view is amazing!
Breakfast choice was good. My partner enjoyed the full English. I had the special but the muffin wasn’t toasted and didn’t taste fresh.
Staff were welcoming and pleasant.
The room photographs displayed online look good so maybe they are refurbing. We won’t be returning.
