I met two Germans at breakfast, and we booked a Mekong tour together.
Good budget choice
Having a balcony plus rooftop space is a big bonus for backpackers. The furniture is simple, but functional.
They kept my bag and let me hang out until my bus time.
The staff told me how to avoid tourist traps and where locals actually eat pho.
Everything nearby
I wouldn't recommend this hotel. It was located on a side street. I booked the room without knowing beforehand that the main street is a well-known party area (definitely my fault). I requested a quiet room and booked the "Superior Double Room with Window." The owner's response was very slow. He wanted to give us the standard double room, which was supposed to be quieter. This room was significantly smaller and only had a small window facing the hallway. If we had opened it, all the guests walking through the hallway could have seen into the room. The room was still noisy in the end. You could hear the music and people walking up and down the stairs. We had to pay upfront, so we ended up paying the same price for a much worse room. This was our last stay in Vietnam, and I felt like I'd been ripped off by a fellow countryman. When we returned to the hotel in the evening, the employee wanted to make sure we were staying there. (I appreciate that he checked, as the hotel would probably otherwise be used for sex with tourists on the party street.) I'm Vietnamese (dressed normally in a Western style, not revealing) and assured him that my partner (fair skin, blue hair, Western appearance) and I would be staying there. I also showed him our room key. He barely acknowledged me and only wanted to see my partner's passport to compare it with the one he'd photographed at check-in. He probably mistook me for some kind of sex worker who brings tourists to a hotel. That was somewhat insulting. The room was very old but clean. The towels were dirty and smelled musty. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.
Very helpful with directions and tours.
The staff took time to explain the area and safety tips. I felt less anxious instantly.
Staff gave real advice about tours instead of pushing expensive ones. Limited breakfast options, but filling.
The dorm has lockers and two toilets, which made our group stay very smooth. You do need to bring your own padlock.
Honestly, I spent most of my time socializing anyway.
Staff were friendly and helpful with local tips. WiFi was a bit slow sometimes but overall a good stay.
The price is very reasonable for the location. The decor is simple, but clean.
Great value for budget travelers.
Staff gave us a handwritten list of street food spots. We tried pho and banh mi from places tourists wouldn’t find easily.
Central location so you could easily walk around the city. The softest sheets! We got to store our luggage in the reception when arriving early and for a few hours after checking out.
Wifi didn't really work, no kettle or cups (I saw that the hotel answered to another review that all rooms have these things but ours did not, we had to ask for a cup and boil water downstairs), could have been cleaner (long black hairs in the bathroom), a 24/7 blinking sign outside the window but no blackout curtains.
But the worst was the noise which was unbearable. From around 6 PM to long after midnight (2-3AM) there is incredibly loud music playing from the bar street. We were not familiar with the street when booking, but the hotel is advertised as "highly rated for quietness" (straight from their description on booking), so we expected a moderately quiet location. We understand that cities are noisy, but this was next to the loudest street in the city. I think that this should be mentioned in the description of the hotel. If you are looking for nightlife this is a good spot but if you want a good night's sleep go somewhere else.
We stayed for three nights since the hassle of finding a new stay for such a short time was too much and we had already paid. We didn't expect anything fancy and stayed at all kinds of places (often the cheapest most basic places) during our trip and were always happy, but the false advertisement of a quiet location here feels bad. The rest are just small issues that can be improved.
Good central location and very friendly staff
All good
