Lovely building very clean decore very nice and in keeping, well maintained rooms very nice.
We didn't like the fact that first a supier room we only had a double bed which really cricked with every movement, and the coffee was awful at breakfast.
Room was fine, no problem, bar staff in the evening were fantastic
Receptionist on arrival was overbearing and not very welcoming, breakfast was a joke, came down to nobody around, tables with uncleared plates from early risers, one irritated guest called it 'Fawlty Towers' only on Basil! More like 'Mary Celeste'.
Weekends there is supposed to be a cooked breakfast but only a continental which was OK but lacked variety
Only issue in room was shower very slippy which should be addressed otherwise great room.
The rooms and the staff were very nice.
When we checked in we explained my wife was a Celiac and if they could do anything gluten free for breakfast.
Yes we reassurred that there were options.
Got to breakfast and was informed there was nothing for breakfast gluten free.
So we had no breakfast.
Despite the critical comments below, I was received personably and we left similarly personably...BUT!!, this could be improved , (see below)
no-one took my 'phone call Friday night or had replied by the time we arrived Saturday c.1100h
Dislike the impersonal nature of hotels who don't have a human feature. No-one around on Sunday morning breakfast either.
Close to the river
Paint coming off in shower water not hot enough TV didn't work
Good price for a 1 night stay for 2
Missing shower curtain causing water to spew all over the floor. Slip hazard as floor was soaked
Bedside light didnt work annoying as wanted to read
No staff around at breakfast. Coffee cold. No milk. Waited ages for someone to come and the person who did finally appear seemed like she was a cleaner and not hospitality staff
Doors slam - helpful to have soft close doors
Good value stay but these were just a few niggles
Location and staff
Fabulous room with everything you could need from kettle and coffee machine to jacuzzi bath and separate shower. Lovely comfy big bed. Continental breakfast had good quality choices.
The jacuzzi bath unfortunately didn’t work but it still was a lovely bath so no big deal. No decaf coffee at breakfast.
Room itself was quite nice, good size and nice presentation. They were struggling a bit against the heatwave I think but the wall mounted fan kept it reasonably comfortable and I don't think the hotel can be blamed for the extreme weather. Parking was easy.
Breakfast was really quite poor I felt, especially for a limited window.
The staff at night was great and very accommodating.
despite ringing the bell on several occasion in the morning the day staff did not appear.
The room was nice with a 4 poster bed and a post bathroom
The music from thd bar made a thud thud beat in our bedroom all afternoon until 10pm which wasn't very pkeasant.
The staff were amazing; friendly and helpful. The bed was pretty comfy too.
I had emailed ahead to ask about an early check in. Unfortunately this was not available when we got there.
We had a birthday lunch to attend, so got back to the hotel around 6.30 to check in. I had booked a twin room, and for a reason. However, by 6.30 the twins had gone and they only had a double left!!!! Not ideal.
There was no hot water for a shower the following morning.
Breakfast, to be honest, was a joke. Something that could have been jam, lumps of butter floating in water, cling film covered really cheap ham that was sweating due to the weatner6, croissants with soggy bottoms, poor fruit selection - no fresh fruit - and sweet flavoured yoghurts.
A slice of toast was all I could eat - and didn't want to risk one questionable jam!
I shall stay elsewhere next time.
The ambiance of the hotel and rooms was excellent, well furnished and comfortable. We enjoyed drinks on the terrace.
The menu being small could be a problem for some people, it worried us but what we ordered for dinner was excellent.
t
We stayed in room14 and in the morning wanted to shower but found that there was no hot water from the shower, so tried to settle for a strip wash only to find that the sink plug did not hold water in the sink, then tried to fill the spa bath and one of the taps fell of and again not hot water.
You should be aware that it is a continental breakfast offering which I do not have a problem with but it is not serviced so when things run out they are not replaced. you are asked to clear tab the evening before you leave as reception is unmanned in the morning.
This meant that when we went to tell the hotel of the problems we had had in our room so that the next occupant would suffer the same as we had, we did find a young lady there who did not seem to interested but she may not have been a receptionist.
Taking all this into account it would not stop us revisiting the hotel again, we would check for hot water on arrival though.
Basic Continental b,fast but no Staff or cooked food.
Breakfast
Great location
Peaceful
Great staff
The breakfast could have been better
My particular bed was noisy but comfortable
The decor was nice. The bed was comfy.
Coffee machine faulty. The shower needs a wand attachment. The breakfast was boring. The water for tea and coffee was luke warm. NO marmalade? No atmosphere. Needs some unobtrusive background music in the dining room
