My recent stay at Mövenpick Hotel & Residences Nairobi was extremely disappointing and fell far below expectations—especially considering the premium price paid.

I arrived very late at night after a flight cancellation, already exhausted and in need of rest. Instead of a smooth check-in experience, I was assigned a room that was completely inappropriate for a business traveler. The room had a strong, unpleasant smell and appeared to be more of a serviced apartment with a kitchen rather than a proper hotel room. At 2 AM, this was the last thing I expected after paying for a high-end stay.

When I raised the issue with the reception, it required considerable insistence before they agreed to change the room. While the staff eventually complied, the entire process was unnecessarily stressful and time-consuming at such an inconvenient hour. This disruption significantly impacted my ability to rest and recover, effectively spoiling the night.

For a hotel that positions itself as a premium property, both the initial room allocation and the handling of the complaint were unacceptable. Basic standards—such as providing a clean, fresh, and appropriate room—should not require escalation, especially for a late-night check-in.

Overall, this experience reflects poorly on service consistency and guest management. I would not recommend this hotel for business travelers who value reliability, comfort, and professionalism.

Very comfortable, but the food service is odd.

New, spacious, modern hotel

Cons:

Apparently with breakfast to take out you cannot order boiled eggs and bacon or sausage. There’s one option and that is a veggie sandwich!!!??? Come again!
My tea time cheesecake had not fully thawed out … what a disappointment!
