Severe mold smell — I could not stay in the room and had to book another hotel.
Pros:

The staff at reception were friendly and polite when I arrived, and check-in was quick.

Cons:

Unfortunately, the condition of the rooms was very disappointing. The first room had a noticeable mold/musty smell and very old furnishings. The television was extremely outdated and had no usable internet connection, so I asked if another room was available.

They moved me to a room on the ground floor, but the mold smell there was much stronger. It was so heavy that my throat started to burn shortly after entering the room. I tried opening the windows and running the air conditioner, but it made no difference. The air conditioner itself was also very noisy and appeared poorly maintained.

The smell was not simply “humidity”; it was a very strong mold-like smell throughout the room, including around the bed and mattress. Although the bed linen appeared clean, the mattress itself smelled very musty.

I stayed in the room for less than an hour and did not use the bathroom, bed or other facilities. I went back to reception, explained that I could not safely or comfortably spend the night there, and asked either for another suitable room or to cancel my stay. My deposit was returned, but the 700 THB room payment was refused.

I booked another hotel immediately afterwards, where the room was clean and comfortable, and stayed there instead.

I think refusing a refund in these circumstances was very disappointing, especially as I had barely used the room at all. I am writing this so future guests are aware of the condition of the rooms before booking.

Für mich hat alles gepasst. Beim nächsten Besuch in Surat wohne ich wieder im Hotel Merlin
Pros:

Ich habe das Zimmer für eine Nacht gebucht. Super sauberes und sehr grosses Zimmer. Einen kurzen Spaziergang vom Hotel entfernt ist das riesige Central Surat Thani Einkaufszentrum. Verlässt man das Hotel und folgt der Strasse nach rechts, kommen einige ausgezeichnete Thai Restaurants. Wer eine Unterkunft sucht, die nicht direckt im Zentrum der Stadt ist, liegt mit dem Merlin Hotel sicher nicht falsch. Tuktuk, oder das Personal bestellt einen Grab, wenn man von A nach B will.

Cons:

Mir hat alles gefallen.
Gut zu wissen:
Das Personal spricht nur sehr beschränkt englisch. Ist aber total hilfsbereit.
Check-In erst ab 14:00.
