Avoid staying at this location. The whole experience was a nightmare.
Pros:

I really liked how the hotel owner/operator had the tenacity to tell us to get the **** out of his hotel and refused to check us in because we did not inform him about our arrival time and he demanded an apology.

Cons:

The encounter with the hotel owner/operator was one-of-a-kind. I really feel sorry for him for being such a bitter human being. You can read my google review for more details as to what happened, however there are tens of other places around that area one could stay at.

Great hotel in a great location
Pros:

This was a great place to stay. We stayed 3 nights in May '26 and, as it was off-season, we had the whole place to ourselves!

Consequently, we had great service and attention from the staff (Shotta) and the owner (Ted). They made our stay there very memorable.

The rooms were comfortable with a balcony overlooking the lake. Breakfast was great and freshly cooked.

I'd highly recommend this as a great place to stay and relax.

こんな宿、紹介して欲しくない。
Cons:

4時半に到着すると人は居る様子なのに、玄関はクローズ。暫く待ったところで、たまたま人が出て来て、玄関を開けてくれました。酷い！！

Pros:

Breakfast was great. Proprietor was very friwndly and helpful. Good restaurants nearby. Kayaking on the lake was fun. Bedroom was nice and dark, bed was comfortable. Nice place to relax inside your room, the facility or outdoors. Easy parking.

My stay at Nojiri Lake Hotel exceeded my expectations for a relaxing, full of nature healing experience. Thank you!!
Pros:

Love the hotel. Very welcoming, very clean rooms, love the scenic location, staff were very kind and went out of their way to be helpful. Quiet which is what I needed, authentic Japanese breakfast, option for western food also. I loved that this hotel was strictly non smoking (I’m very sensitive to smoking). Loved the option for kayaking, walking in nature. This hotel is for the person who also loves to interact internationally. I met awesome visitors from a young woman with a PhD in elephant behavior to one working on sustainable living, to one who built Japan telecommunications with Antarctica.

Cons:

A bit of rain but even that was great because there is a beautiful sitting room that looks out on Lake Nojiri.
