Naturalis is a very small hotel on the outskirts of town. And I do mean outskirts. We had a rental car and it took an hour to find the place. Nobody in town had even heard of it. For us that turned out to be a good thing as the town of San Pedro had little appeal to us. Each evening we were happy to return to our own little hideaway away from the surprisingly very third world city of San Pedro.
The property is fairly new and well kept, though a few aspects of the property were confusing:
* The"pool" is surrounded by trees that were constantly shedding something, so maintaining it seemed like an effort in futility. It is not heated either so basically not usuable. The pool also is one depth. Deep. I would suggest they turn it into a Koi Pond with a waterfall or something.
* While the landscaping generally attractive, it could be improved by adding some plants with color that maybe needed a bit of water. A couple large areas had native flowers that they cut completely down while we were there. Unfortunately nothing was then left but dirt to look at. Those large areas need to be rethought. Some large planters with colorful plants perhaps?
* There were very few paintings anyplace on the property. Odd.
* The buildings are adobe style which in theory keep the cool of the night during the day. We were there there in the spring. The theory is evidently not true.
* No overhead fans!! Really weird.
Service and food including dinner were generally great
Amazing service and great staff. They solved all of our requests with a smile. Great hotel and value although far away from downtown.
Very disappointing. We booked Naturalis thinking it would be a very comfortable option but it was a bit of a nightmare. We notified the hotel that we would be driving up from the Calama airport, with an 8:30m pm flight arrivial. Our flight was late; we found the hotel very difficult to find, going past it twice because the gate was locked and there was no sign giving the name of the hotel. We tried the buzzer at the gate but got no response. On the third drive by we met a woman walking along the road, asked her and she called someone at the hotel who came and opened the gate and rather, reluctantly checked us in. We had called the hotel number many times but only gotten voicemail. This is not the way to run a hotel!.
The property is very attractive but not service is lacking throughout. There was a horrible stench in our room that seemed to come from the toilet; probably a malfunctioning septic tank. The food in the restaurant was good but took a long time to arrive and then arrived lukewarm to room temperature, and with the cold temperature of the dining room soon became cold to the point of inedible. The plates should have been warmed but weren't. All in all the hotel provided little service or indication of interest in the guests. A hotel is supposed to be part of the hospitality industry; not an art installation.
This boutique hotel is located in a quiet and remote spot just outside the heart of San Pedro which was great for us. I would definitely recommend. The staff- Bena in particular- couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful. The place does not feel like it it’s quite finished though with little touches missing that could have made it a more comfortable stay. For example, getting fresh coffee outside of 8-11am is a problem and they could have a hot water machine and French press instead of instant (and milk). The room was dimly lit and the outdoor area could have been more comfortable. There is potential for a great natural « garden » space but it hasn’t been landscaped yet. We came in winter so couldn’t enjoy the pool but it looks nice. So I think it is a great place and will only get better if they iron out some of the small discomforts.
Fantastic little boutique hotel. New, spotless, beautiful adobe design. Helpful and kind staff. Delicious food. The dinners and box lunches are as very healthy and delicious. As good as if not better then eating in town and fairly priced. It is a few minute drive outside of town (which we loved) but you should rent a car or hire a guide for your activities. In the US the hotel would have been more expensive. Loved this place and would definitely return.
I’ll keep it simple. The service at this resort is phenomenal. If it wasn’t for Camila helping us coordinate taxis and working so hard to make us comfortable our trip wouldn’t have been the same. I highly recommend this place. Fresh food, excellent service, hot showers, and only 15 min from San Pedro.
Perfect surroundings, very serene, tasteful implementation of local architecture
This is a wonderful place to stay. It is 5 minutes drive out of town, so if you want to be in the centre of nightlife action, this is not the place to stay. But if you want somewhere a little quieter, this is the place to go. It is small (only 7 rooms), with wonderful staff who couldn't be more helpful. There is a splendid dinner 6 nights of the week if you don't want to go into town, and the dinner is excellent value for money. There is also a pleasant courtyard and swimming pool. Very highly recommended.
Hotel novo, confortável, café da manhã ótimo e completo, porém o que mais nos surpreendemos foi a atenção e a hospitalidade dos funcionário Alex. Agradecemos toda a ajuda e carinho
A stunning, quiet, intimate, family-run operation on the edge of San Pedro de Atacama. The rooms are clean, stylish, and everything is brand new. Breakfast was great--eggs, charcuterie, cheeses, yogurt, muesli, pancakes, juice. etc. Alex and Camilla were exceptional hosts, and helped us with restaurant reservations, tour guide company recommendations, shuttle service into town, and 5:30 am breakfasts to go when we had early starts. They were always cheerful and welcoming, and available by WhatsApp. The property has new mountain bikes and safety gear available without additional charge.
The only concern is that Naturalis is a bit hard to find since it`s new, a bit outside of town, and accessed via roads that do not appear on map apps. Call for precise directions.
Hotel staff is very friendly and always looking to support you during your stay. Hotel seems to be new and it was clean. I liked the decoration and breakfast. They also prepared us breakfast in bags to go because we left very early in the morning for a tour. That was super nice from the hotel. Opportunities: they only had wifi in some specific areas, hotel was not easy to find, the pool had a lot of leaves because there are trees very close to the pool and that limited us to use the pool.
Alex and staff were very helpful in every aspect of our stay. They provided transport to and from the town.
The room was spacious and comfortable. The hotel was quiet and relaxing.
The breakfast and evening meals were very good.
The adobe structes of the rooms provide - as is known by those familiar with thermics - excellent temperature conditioning: the heat absorbed during the day, when the room is nicely cool, is released at night and provides for a warm environment during the otherwise cold night. The pool's water, feels as cold as a Swiss mountain lake, but after hot dusty days exploring the Atacama desert, I grew addicted to the refreshing swim. The water is unfiltered, but clean and devoid of chlorine. The restaurant, albeit with a very limited menu, serves up excellent meals at a very competitive price. The breakfast is generously ample and deliciously varied. They offer it as a brown-bag picknick for early morning explorers. Their receptionist is an environmental engineer with ample knowledge of where and when to explore the geysirs, the flamingo salt flats, archaeological sites, etc. Heed her adivce, you won't regret it. The only thing that needs improvement is wifi. It wasn't available until the last morning of our 4-day stay. Also: when solar panels shall be installed (a project for next year) the hotel will no longer suffer the rotating power cuts implemented by the municipality, which also affect the water pump and the ability to take a shower.
