We missed an appointment that we paid for due to the door getting locked and stuck.
Check in here late due to impromptu decision to overnight in Malacca. We didn’t get here until almost 9pm.
Riviera has weak internet and whole day could use. Basic TV channel and bed was hard. Strong water pressure and hot water remained after few of us had showered.
A place for a night stay is okay but not long as bed was hard and things are abit run down in the room already.
There were literally 2 rooms occupied the week we stayed there. Rooms are okay and you have one staff for the entire 300 rooms available. Rooms do need some maintenance. But the staff at the reception was friendly.
Not worth the price at all. I paid for the suite room but there was no wifi. And the room service was not good or professional. A few broken or poorly serviced items in the room. Hotel far from the main area
Staffs were polite and helpul. Breakfast selection very limited. No aircon along corridor, so will be a little bit warm. Furnitures are old, sofa cushion with a lot of stains. However, the room aircon is very quiet.
The good:
The room is big to fit 3 person, the best thing I like about the room is it’s powerful aircond that cools down the room in no time and kept the whole night cool enough for a good sleep, the bed and sheets were decent and the view from the balcony was exquisite. Instagrammable lobby and street outside the hotel. Parking is not an issue at all.
The bad:
The room and carpet looks old, tv was turned on when I first entered the room and the remote for tv and aircond was out of battery, the phone was unplugged and not usable thus I had to use my cell to call the reception, the hallway that leads to the room is quite long and eerie, there’s no exhaust fan in the toilet , the sofa seems old and dusty, breakfast could be better but was alright
Overall, the experience was below expectations. There was a dead cockroach in the shower, beds were not made up properly, and I would not have stayed here if I am alone or in pairs. Better only if in a larger group as it is quite eerie from the parking lot to the room. May not return to this hotel unless I have no other choice to fit a large group. In my opinion, the owner spent quite a lot in starting this hotel but somehow lacks maintenance plus bad management.
Spacious room,and big!!
With separate living area and bedroom.
Aircond so far good and cold.
Room cleanliness ok..
Reception was OK.. even serving with no smile and like no mood to work..but they give me early check in,tq so much.
At night a lot of food stall open and enjoy the busking
Stayed here with a friend for 1 NIGHT, it was so terrible.
1. Toiletries were not refilled, only tooth brush and shower cap. Bath wash and toilet rolls were not given unless u ask for it.
2. Under the bed was so dusty with used earbutts on the floor.
3. There wqs period stains on the beige sofa and semen on the cabinet below the TV ( omg)
4. Shower is terrible and water pressure is very low.
5. Area around this hotel is dead, unless u have a car.
Verdict: stay at your own risk!!
I saw the pictures of the lobby and interested in the old school vibe. I wasnt disappointed. We stayed in a relatively non busy weekend in Malacca (rare!).
Location:
A bit distance from city centre but just a bridge cross away. We are staying to rest between our trip from Johore to Selangor so we didnt mind this distance.
Vibe:
Love the old school vibe from the lobby. A lot of vintage items. Check in was fast- complete in like 7 minutes. Helpful staff.
The night time is happening with beautiful hanging lights and a lot of eateries and small hawker like booth. Can choose between hawkers, pasta shop, ice cream shop, a chinese muslim eatery, a foodcourt style shop with mcdonald style ordering console, a dried cuttlefish shop. The bar closed down (plus for me). Some hawker sells kabob, mochi, hot groundnuts, fries etc. There are seller selling old school snacks and toys, thats my favourite one. There are game stall and place you can rent mini cars for kids. The middle courtyard is lively. The part overlooking the river is kinda empty, but nice walk if you are not alone. The other side is Kaizen hotel. The street view not so nice as the developement up front is still in progress.
Beautiful fountains. The place is like haven for OOTD. I saw young ladies going down in pajamas. (very comfortable indeed)
Room: Its long type room but nice for me. Son have his running room. All facility great. Shower hot and good pressure. No wierd smell. TV have basic local and radio channel. Wifi provided decent. Got nice retro writing table for me to do work. Security good, have to scan card before entering the room area.
Pool: Indoor pool. Only for adult, no kiddy pool. We didnt use it as we stay mainly to rest during journey.
Price: Okay form me it was RM 245 with for King bed and 2 people breakfast. (not suite), breakfast included.
Breakfast: Service okay but food kinda so-so. Nothing special. Nasi lemak was a bit gritty and undercook. Otherwise there is friend noodle and meehoon, potato, egg, vegetable, simple salad, noodle station, porridge station and very simple bread station. Drink is cordial, plain water, tea and coffee. Eat your breakfast in the city may be nicer.
Room was very spacious. Very resonable price. Location was near the river. Surrounding areas got few shoplot for you to buy any merchandise. Not far from city centre around 10 minutes drive.
Food was good, you can also find few food store around the area
No proper uniform to identify the staff working there.and the breakfast for the restaurant is not much variety and improper decoration 😭😭😭
Not much to do. It was too quite. The hotel does not provide breakfast and the shop opens after 11am. You will have to order breakfast via grab. I booked for two days and left after my first day.
The view at the courtyard was beautiful and the lobby reminisce of days gone by decorated with a retro look.
But, that was about it.
Rooms were dusty. Shower was leaking. Remote for the aircon has weak batteries so we interchanged with the TV remote to operate both.
Phone doesn't work. Weak wifi and dropped connections most of the time.
Give it a miss until they sort out those problems.
Saw many recent comments that described the negative parts, so I was a bit hesitant to book at first. But I went ahead because it was the cheapest (26-27 Nov 2021) and it’s not located among the busiest parts of town. I came with my wife and two children – aged 9 and 4.
Through Agoda (listed in TripAdvisor, obviously pfftt), I got the Superior Triple Room which had with it:
- 1 king bed
- 1 single bed
- 1 sofa large / long enough for an adult person to sleep on.
- free buffet breakfast for 3 pax
All these + taxes + surcharges + fees on the end-of-Nov weekend = RM 292. RM 292!!!

Please refer to my pictures for the descriptions below;
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Room
---------
- it was clean; towels, mattresses, pillows, etc. all smelled nice too
- TV worked fine – some free TV channels + radios; two USB ports can be used, no HDMI ports
- aircond was good; its remote worked fine as well
- shower was great; it was easy to adjust heat and cold shower
- water pressure was strong; flush and bidet were in good conditions
- balcony was windy and the river view was calming; the grill’s height was higher than standard, I’m 175cm and its top was above my navel. So, I think it’s quite safe even for children to lounge around for a few seconds
- nighttime was quiet; we went to bed around 11.45 pm and there was nothing (happening) downstairs
- toiletries and basic tea-coffee sets were aplenty; got clothing iron sans the board
Hotel
--------
- indoor pool was just down the hall; we went into the pool room didn’t take a dip, the size was decent for an indoor pool
- all three lifts were operational and fast; even with the traffic of weekend tourists, we never had to wait for more than a minute
- check-in process took roughly 3 minutes; check-out was less than 15 seconds
- all the staffs were pleasant and helpful, no matter where I came across them
- the single-entrance basement parking was free of charge and bright enough even at night with security guards; there were hundreds of parking bays, so no fuss about fighting for one
- I don’t think it’s THAT far from the town because you just literally have to cross the bridge and you’re there. I timed it; it took me a whole 8 minutes from Riviera’s basement parking to reach Dataran Pahlawan / Imperial Heritage. If that’s far, just book Hatten then and Bob’s your uncle =)
Restaurant
---------------
- buffet breakfast was more than enough for RM15/pax (not that I had to pay for my son coz he’s 4 years old); many of the typical Malaysian heavy breakfast choices were there, like nasi lemak, fried kuétiau, fried noodles, fried mihun, white bread, and porridge + boiled eggs, hotdogs, condiments, etc.
- food counters were easily accessible; tables are minimal inside the restaurant but there were a lot more outside (for both covered and open-air areas)
- cutlery was clean and neatly placed / arranged
- staffs were polite and quick to clean up used tables
In short, we loved it!
If you would like to find a place that is out of the crowded town of Malacca, then this is the place... it is a nice suites with old-times style will surely let you experience something different than the ordinary modern hotels... it is a low rise suites block equipped with lifts and even an indoor swimming pool at its level 3. I had the river view unit, a very windy area, good place to chill and relax.
The hotel location is far-off. The service speed is extremely low, it take for 1 hrs to checked -in our room. Extra charge for request the towel, etc. The shower is spoil, since cannot utilize hot temperate water, will come out of smoke. The room is spread of odour smell, is very smelly. I am very disappointment for the hotel, this hotel is not worth for 4 stars.
Nice and cozy..easy access to beach snd convience store. At night foods have a lots of variety. Surrounding weather is a bit hot but manageable. Walking distance to other attractions is a bit far. Public transport is not accessible.
Booked through booking.com. Got room near to indoor swimming pool and entrance of lift. They had tourist from China who were so loud - corridors not carpeted so very noisy. At the other end of room - balcony, could hear live band playing up to 1am.
Buffet breakfast priced at rm15 per pax was not worth at all. Don’t bother with it.
Overall not good experience and never to return.
