Getting dated with deferred maintenance on room and deck/pool area
We have stayed at a lot of hotels and this was definitely up there amongst the best
There wasn’t anything we didn’t like
We stayed at the hotel early in our trip for two nights and loved it so much we cancelled a day off another hotel to stay here for our final night of the holiday. It's very high level service and facilities next to the incredible Galle Fort which is full of fantastic restaurants and shops
Very little.
La camera con la vasca. La bellissima vista sul forte e l’oceano. La struttura in quanto tale
Buffet per la cena un po’ al di sotto delle aspettative
We loved it so much that we extended our stay.
Beautiful hotel. A big thank you to the housekeeping staff who do an excellent job. The best hotel I have ever stayed in. Will definitely revisit in the future.
The location. Being able to see a large historical fort and the beach. Short walk to the old town and fort. Beautiful, spacious and clean room. The turndown service offered was a nice touch. Welcome chocolates in the room when we checked in. Delicious breakfast buffet with a range of local and western dishes. The fresh fruit at the breakfast was my favourite. Room service food was high quality and amazing. The Japanese toilet in the room. We also had the jacuzzi and were given the salts to use.
The gym was small and didn’t have a range of machines.
During turn down service, there were bright lights and normally as part of this service, the lights are dimmed however not a huge dealbreaker.
Location - Breakfast - Pool - Outlook
Little overpriced
Would’ve loved a souvenir shop and a tuk-tuk service to the train station, but honestly, it didn’t affect our stay at all. Everything else more than made up for it.
The staff at Le Grand were amazing from check-in to check-out—warm, attentive, and genuinely helpful. They handled all our requests effortlessly, which made the stay feel easy and stress-free.
And the food? Outstanding. The pork and seafood dishes were freshly cooked and easily some of the best I’ve had in Sri Lanka so far. Definitely a place I’d recommend.
Literally a little piece of paradise. Everything was amazing from the bedroom to the staff. Would highly recommend.
The view was incredible direct sight line to fort walls .
The crashing waves and amazing pool .luxury at its best .
It was understated glamour ,fabulous design all comfort all the way .
The heated toilet seats and the pool was a little bit too warm for me but I like cold pools
Beautiful hotel and great location
We broke down on the way so got there later than planned- missed our signature cocktails !
The location is great. It’s in 15 minutes walk distance from the old city.
The hotel is showing its age, and the rooms could definitely use a refresh.
The staff was so nice and helpfull. Though we didn't asked for a cot they suggested and gave one which
came very handy later. Brilliant idea to have options for welcome drink like drink/ popsicle/ tea.
Refreshing towels were warm, need swimming pool time extension at least till 8pm.
View of Galle Fort and the proximity to the ocean. Specious Room with the ocean view.
The elevator had a strong unpleasant odor, and shockingly, there were nail clippings on the floor. The second-floor hallway resembled a run-down public hospital in Sri Lanka — chipped paint on the walls and generally dirty throughout.
We booked a premium room, which did have a nice ocean view and was spacious. However, the layout was poorly designed. The closet had a flickering light, and there was no iron or ironing board provided. The in-room jacuzzi was visibly dirty and uninviting. The phone was grimy and oily to the touch. Every window — including those opening to the balcony — was filthy.
The washroom was by far the most concerning part. The layout resembled that of a public toilet, with a partition between the shower and toilet that looked cheap and unhygienic. Inside the shower, there were dirt deposits and visible black mold. The privacy blind in the shower was stained and clearly hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. The glass washroom door provided no privacy — anyone on a nearby boat could see inside.
The rugs in the room were made of coir, which is not suitable for hotel use, as they are nearly impossible to clean properly. They were very dirty underneath.
To make matters worse, one of our rooms had a water leak pouring from the washroom ceiling past midnight. Maintenance had to be called in, which disrupted our night. The manager’s solution was to move rooms at 3:00 AM — an unacceptable option at that hour — and the only compensation offered was a USD 30 discount, which I was told would take 25 days to be processed.
Lactation and dinner
The views, the room, the pool, the food are all exceptional. Although the prices are on the high side, for a 5 star hotel the room was very beautiful with lovely views of the pool and Galle Fort.
Everything was to our liking.
