Hotel location at the top of town affords unparalleled view from the patio off the room. We spent so much time there, enjoying coffee in the morning, wine at night, and the incredible view over the lake and town at all hours. Hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming and provided us some excellent dinner recommendations (we loved Bistro Antiki Sapori) that were delicious and not expensive. Riding the ferries and island hopping during the day and coming back to relax and enjoy Bellagio made for a very memorable and romantic destination.
Hotel did not have breakfast, however, there were several places a short walk down where you could eat or take out from. We enjoyed taking out and eating on our patio. One disadvantage of being at the top of town is that there are a LOT of steps- both from the ferry dock up to the hotel and then up to the hotel check-in and again up to the rooms. Not a place for those who dont like steps. But the payoff of the view was worth the effort.
It sounded good, it looked good but we didn't expect it to be as good as it was. My daughter and I booked a double room with a lake view for last week. It was easier to find than it said, it could not have been better located - it took us 4-5 minutes to slowly walk down the steps to the town and ferry port. (These steps that everyone refers to are not at all steep and they form a central path down the little lanes with interesting shops - enjoyable!). We arrived later than expected (but we did call to let them know) and were greeted by the owners who could not have been friendlier, more patient or helpful. Everything was clearly explained to us and we were shown our room which was simple but charming. The view was beautiful - more than we expected. Unlike some 5* hotels, everything worked as it should (wifi*). Extremely clean and comfortable, lots of hot water, fluffy towels and we had maid service every day. We had a little balcony with chairs. The garden under a vine was devine and vey tranquil.... the little family dog was gorgeous, friendly and made no noise at all. We couldn't fault this quaint and authentic little hotel - We were very comfortable and felt under no pressure - as is sometimes the case in larger hotels. *The only thing we found was no wi-fi (2nd floor) but the minute we mentioned it, the owner adjusted the router and it was on and worked perfectly. They bent over backwards to ensure our stay was a happy and comfortable one - so huge thank you K and Chia. My advice to travellers: be polite and respectful, ask if there is anything you want or do not understand and I can assure you that the staff will take great care to satisfy your needs.
The hotel is very well appointed in the town of Bellagio. It’s quiet and rooms spacious. Our host was wonderful and nothing was an issue. Any request we put in they obliged.
Bathrooms have been renovated. Very clean and everything you need is there.
Each room has it own split system air conditioner which works a treat.
Beds were comfortable and rooms serviced every day.
We would definitely return should we go back it was fabulous
This hotel is amazing ! So perfect for exploring Bellagio. The location is great such a cute walk up to the building. Our room was spotless and the view was incredible.!! Prices and host are great ! Thank you so much for a great experience.
Sean and niamh from Ireland.
Stayed here for a wedding with our baby and feel we did really well for the price, the room was spacious and spotless with a lovely view down to the lake and mountains. The secure gates helped us feel safe with all our stuff while juggling the baby and the family who ran it were so kind and helpful. It was very peaceful too for such a central location, glad we stayed here.
Bed and breakfast con prezzo sproporzionato al servizio offerto. Molto scomodo da raggiungere dai parcheggi esistenti.
I stayed for a few days in this nice little family run hotel. I only intended to stay for two but Bellagio is so beautiful and relaxing that I delayed plans to move on. In all honesty, Bellagio was a happy accident being recommended to me while in nearby Como.
Anyway, this hotel is an old fashioned but beautiful house with marvellous views down the hill over the roofs of Bellagio to the lake below.
It is so quiet and old world and the family that run it live there too and are always a cheery presence in the garden as you enter.
No food served, no bar but you are close to the village and its many cafes. It is up a steep hill but it's not far and not overly challenging.
The rooms are spotless and spacious and offer lovely views. I enjoyed it here and would happily recommend it.
Beautiful and simple hotel. It was always clean and the house was absolutely lovely and hospitable. The hotel is situated above the town, so not on the sea side where the other expensive hotels are. There was no breakfast available there, but really didn't need it since there were plenty of places to eat right outside.
It was a climb up beautiful stairs to this property, and we could see over the roofs to Lake Como below. We liked the location - within steps of restaurants, gelato, and beautiful shopping. This was a good value for Bellagio, and our host was friendly and helpful. Our balcony overlooked the terrace and water. We walked down a few steps each morning, got a cappuccino, and had a private breakfast on the terrace. Birds were friendly enough to sit on my hand and eat crumbs. So special, we repeated.
This is a very interesting solution in Bellagio, of course it is not a 5 stars hotel but for the price you can get a clean room with all you need, in the centre of the village with a great view on the lake.
Albergo Giardinetto is a beautiful hotel with a garden situated at the top of the town in Bellagio. Our room had a balcony which overlooked Como and the mountains which were stunning. The hotel is run by an Italian family who are friendly but can't speak much English. A few important other tips below:
- No Breakfast (a local shop sells fruit and breads so we bought our own and sat on the balcony overlooking the lake.
- No TV
AMENITIES:
- the hotel is close to all resturants, bars, pizzerias, cafés, gelato shops and gift shops.
- boat station - you can get boats across to Menagio, Verenna.
- kayaks can be rented too - highly recommend this.
SERVICE: once we had got our keys for the room we didn't see any staff, they just live in part of the hotel. They cleaned our room everyday.
CLEANLINESS: very clean and tidy
RESTRICTED PARKING:
- major car parking issue - we took two cars between six of us and it was a nightmare.
- road into town - has restrictions and you get fined if you drive down it as it's a narrow one way street.
- parking - I highly recommend parking 10 mins away from the hotel and walking in. If you drive slightly out of town there are free spaces.
- yellow lines are restricted to residents only which if you leave your car there you will also encounter a large fine 90 euros we were told.
I would get transfers from the airport to avoid this.
ACTIVITIES:
- walking, exploring, boat trips, exploring other towns, kayaks, speed boats, rent a bike, wine tasting, pizza eating ect...
Ideally for couples or families.
Little hard to find and little parking but clean but right in town. Bellagio had many steps and the hotel is no exception so little luggage is better. Friendly staff, clean, simple hotel but the beds are a little on the hard side. Plenty of restaurants and shops close by. Nothing fancy but the price was reasonable
We stayed here for 3 nights, the location is very central and the restaurants and shops are right on your doorstep. It's family run and they lady is extremely friendly and accommodating. The room was small but very clean and light with a cute balcony with a view of the outside area which is pretty and a view of the lake. The bell tower is close so between 8am -11pm the bell rings every 30mins but this is a minor. The wifi is good which was also a bonus. We would certainly return and recommend this to friends and family.
This is a good place for visiting Bellagio. It is simple but clean and the family running it is very friendly.
A great central location, paring available in nearby square, but watch time for paying.
A good base for visiting a beautiful part of Italy. Free Wi fi on ground floor
I have stayed at Giardinetto for many years every summer and find them incredibly friendly and helpful. A great bargain in Belagio, one of the most beautiful places in this world. There is a beautiful garden which is shown in the picture accurately.
Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. You get what you pay for. Old man running the place, shouting at what seems to be his daugther who is the manager. Sweet and friendly staff. Beds are not good. Rooms are ok, and clean. There creditcard machine didnt work, and they did not really seem interested in having it fixed. So be prepared to pay tax.
Albergo Giardinetto is a really Italian albergo with polished stone floors, beautifully clean bathrooms, simple and uncluttered rooms and the sound of birds. The rooms face onto the wonderful garden where you can enjoy the grapevine, jasmine etc.. The church square is 'due minuti' distance so you can have your first cappuccino there at the café bar, or you can walk 5-10 minutes and have a lakeside breakfast. Both the situation and design of Albergo Giardinetto allow you to have an authentic Italian experience. The owners are warm and genuine and offer great value and this albergo should really appeal to active travellers who want to explore Bellagio and Lago di Como or who like to sit reading in the garden on a warm day. The views over the garden and red-tiled rooves with their tiny roof terraces and verdant recesses and with the stunningly beautiful Monte di Tremezzo beyond more than compensate for any absence of a lakeview.
Stayed here six years ago and thought it was fine and so returned as it was cheap. This time being a bit older, I found it to be incredibly basic. It is a lot cheaper than the hotels, but after night 2 I found a B&B (Barchetta) which was almost the same price with breakfast included as well as a larger MUCH more plush and AIRCONDITIONED room. People- Italy is HOT during the summer! You need aircon if only to save you from sweating to death after being eaten alive by the Mosquitos.
+ Reasonable room rates (especially compared to other options in Bellagio)
+ Our room - room 20 - had a small balcony where you could glimpse the lake over the houses
+ Friendly owners
+ Quiet location, 5-10mins uphill from the lakeside, plenty of shops and eating options nearby
- Room became quite hot as the sun shone directly in it during the afternoon and there was no air conditioning or fan to cool it down
- We travelled light but it could be hard work to access with a lot of luggage
This is a good budget hotel, although it is not fancy at all. I had a single room that is just a bed, shower, toilet, sink and wardrobe, but it was clean and functional. For the price I didn’t expect air conditioning so the heat wave in Bellagio while I was there kept me out of the room during the day. My room also had a tiny balcony while made it feel larger.
There is a large terrace/garden with tables and chairs so guests can bring food, play cards, read books, whatever, outdoors.
The hotel is on the highest street from the lakeside (maybe 5-6 blocks) and then a flight of stairs up from the street so it is very quiet (unless church bells keep you awake). Rooms are 1-2 flights up from the terrace and office level, so this is not a good choice for travelers with lots of luggage or difficulty in climbing stairs.
If you need or want amenities, this is not the place for you. But if you simply want a clean, convenient place to close your eyes, it’s a great bargain.
