Smart and comfortable in a lovely riverside location.
The hotel is set in very peaceful, beautiful grounds by the river. We were upgraded to a bigger room which was very much appreciated. The room was large and comfortable and spotlessly clean, although the bed was too soft for my liking and the pillows are too flat. The staff were all very polite, helpful & professional. The restaurant looks very pretty but the table we sat at felt too close to the tables either side and felt intrusive of our conversation. The food was fabulous, well presented and delicious. But I would say a bit over priced for what we had. Overall I think the hotel is very nice but overpriced.
I didn't like the fact that we had to sit in the lounge and pre order our food and not be able to go straight to our table & order from there. We were left 40mins before shown to our table.
The gardens on the property were amazing and the service from the staff was exceptional
The property had lots of character.
Our first room was immediately over the new kitchen wing and promptly at 5:00 the kitchen extraction unit started working and peace was ruined. They did find me a new room but the damage had already been done
Gardens and location wedding limited our access to the facilities
The room was small and poorly laid out and the bathroom can only be described and micro. Showering and shaving were a logistical challenged really not to be expected at this price point

Location - Convenient to explore the coast. Fast EV charging stations nearby. There was a slow charger onsite but we didn’t use it.
Well curated garden and outdoor area on the banks of the river.
Room - beautifully decorated. Well stocked with complimentary tea, coffee machine, water, juice. Toilet was modern and contemporary.
Breakfast - À la Carte, delicious
Large parking space at the back of the hotel but it can get busy late in the evening.
The staff were lovely
For the price the room should have been nicer, the shower was barely usable given how low it was and it was ridiculously hot being stuffed up in essentially an attic room. It felt overpriced when the hairdryer was an installed thing that looked like it belonged in the 70s too and generally the features weren’t up to scratch for the cost.
The breakfast was exceptional but finding the car park was difficult drove around for a while could have had signage.
There was nothing we did not like the views around the hotel were beautiful and the river outside the hotel was a delight.The only thing that was difficult for me was the stairs hard to go up ok if your younger.The toilet in the bathroom very low to sit on again difficult with age.
It was as a lovely old building, tasteful and a lovely location. Lots of lovely touches too.

Ambience, comfort, location by river and excellent food
This Is a lovely picturesque property - A charming hotel that is authentic. It felt very quaint and homely. The staff were great and looked after us well. The breakfast which is a la carte (not buffet) was fantastic and we had a lovely dinner in the restaurant. We enjoyed drinks in the garden with the view of the river. The hotel is a 25 minute drive to the coast. We visited Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove and Old Harry Rocks.
We were not happy with our room. Our medium category room seemed smaller than what we had booked and the bathroom was small. Our sink was tiny, the size of an airplane sink - had we known and images were shown we would have booked a higher/different room category especially since we stayed 3 nights. Our carpet was also stained more than usual.
If you prefer real comfort best to book a higher category room or a suite.
The front desk staff could have been warmer.
Beautiful location with the weather to match. The building itself retained all the period features that makes it unique but with modern contemporary updates which elevated it . Lovely bedroom with modern bathroom. Dining room was stunning with lovely views over the garden.

Everything was just "wow" From the mini suite, to the staff, the food, the ambience, the location. I booked it for our 20th wedding anniversary as I wanted something special and it will certainly be a wonderful memory.

The house and gardens are beautiful, the staff were helpful and friendly and the food was delicious.
