I have nothing but positives to say about The City Rooms as a wedding venue. I got married in July and had the best day thanks to the wonderful team.
From the first time I viewed it, I knew that I wanted to get married here. The venue itself is beautiful. What impressed me further is the professionalism, attentiveness and friendliness of the entire team.
Initially, Naomi helped to liaise with us whilst we were initially deciding on the packages, and she helped us with all of our questions, showing us around and securing the best package for us.
We were then handed over to our coordinator Sam who is equally as helpful, friendly and ensured that everything was taken care of.
The catering by Black Chilli was exceptional, and we appreciated that Chef Rishi and his team took our notes from the taster on board and delivered exactly what we wanted on the big day - the food was a big hit and our guests were raving about it. They were also mindful of our allergies which was very important.
Each member of staff delivered friendly service from accepting the corkage the day prior, to the waiter team on the day, everything went smoothly and as discussed.
We have no complaints. The venue could benefit from A/C as it does get very hot in summer and we needed a lot of fans. Additionally, there is no longer a discounted parking arrangement due to NCP closing down so parking for guests is a slight issue.
However, we wouldn't hesitate to book again, and can't thank the team enough.
This is quite a nice place if you're looking to stay in a listed building at a reasonable price. The exterior is gorgeous. The room itself, on the top floor, was roomy, clean and the bathroom exceptional with a great tub/shower. Theres a good breeze with the windows open. The views are fun and the chiming clock tower was charming. It's close to the Richard III museum which was why I chose it.
There has to be somewhere in a building this size where one could install a small lift. Four flights of stairs did me in, and limited how much I went out. The room was nice so I was happy to stay up in my little tower. Going out though, I had to be careful on every step I took. I held onto the handrail - unfortunately it's not very clean. Kind of gross actually. On my last day there the mgmt changed the front door code and did not notify me. I can be reached very easily with my U.S. number on WhatsApp. That was a huge problem. Thankfully there was someone there about a wedding, and I got in. But with all my luggage INSIDE and me OUTSIDE and not knowing if I had a place to sleep for the night, it was somewhat frightening. Again, this could be a fabulous place with some attention to DETAIL.
We held my son's Walima event at City Rooms - We would like to send a huge ‘THANK YOU’ to Beth for helping to create wonderful memories that we will treasure forever.
The venue was beautiful, the food was lovely, and the staff were great from start to finish. They were so helpful and made sure everything ran smoothly. A special thank you to Sabreena and Teo – they were both amazing and happy to assist whenever we needed anything.
We would highly recommend The City Rooms to anyone looking for a beautiful and well-managed wedding venue.
I had my wedding at this venue, and I couldn't be happier with my choice.
Everything at this venue is top-tier.
- The look of the venue is so unique and gorgeous. Our guests were in awe
- They were so open with communication for months prior to our event, and right up to the day itself, making the planning process as stress-free as possible.
- Beth & team specifically were the complete highlights. They were super helpful on the day and they ensured everything was perfect and sorted any issues out super quickly. Their efficiency meant we could enjoy our special day. The coordination between Beth & her team was admirable in making sure everything was flowing well for us.
- The catering was so good! All our guests thoroughly enjoyed the food and so did we
Extremely happy with our choice, it couldn't have felt more special
My son got married in May at The City Rooms, and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The food was excellent and our guests absolutely loved it.The upper room looked truly majestic, and every member of staff was helpful and accommodating.
The highlight for us was our organiser Goergie. who supported us through every stage of the wedding. She made the whole day run smoothly and completely stress-free.
Thank you, Goergie !!
Great stay for work, in the middle of the city.
Pretty cool building didn’t mind the self check in and they put a fan in as some of the windows didn’t open which was very much appriciated.
Very old building so at midnight it felt like someone was knocking on the floor but I think it was the building just creaking that’s the only negative.
Nice place, both the room and bathroom were super sized. A little quirky place, but we enjoyed the fact that there was not a reception and we could come and go as we pleased. Fridge in the room.
The matress had a spring or two broken.
Excellent location
Door lock to room extremely difficult to open unserviced. TV doesn’t work unless you like you tube or have your own Netflix subscription
I have put 'average' as there are some very good things about this hotel but some really annoying things too. Good things, we got a massive room, huge bath, comfy bed (it was a 5ft bed, with the large room they could have had a 5 ft 6 bed but it was very comfy anyway), great coffee machine. However two annoyances, one minor - the minor one was the keysafe where you key in a 4 digit number to get your room key, was hard to read the numbers in rather poor light and the metal wheels with numbers on was rather small, hard to move the wheels without disturbing the ones you have already set. and .....BIG ANNOYANCE, No Parking Anymore !! They used to have a yard at the back. This has been taken out by construction of a large open air party area at 1st floor level, with steel girders in what was car park. Leicester is very hard to park in overnight. This hotel is nowhere near any off street car park. Leicester DID have free onstreet parking 6 pm to 7.30 am and you could go and buy 2 hours on the meter so OK till 9.30 am. NO More. They have widened the pavements, taken out 90% of these spaces, it is now mostly loading, electric car parking, disabled parking, anything but ordinary car parking now. So there is nowhere to park nearby overnight, every one of the VERY few spaces left is already full, And Leicester centre is quite menacing now in the evening to walk from some distant car park 10 minutes walk or more away, it is full of zombie druggies, whizzy Just Eat cyclist on fast electric bikes, all sorts of shady looking people, in groups, standing oir wandering around. This is not the hotel's fault but Removing The Car Park IS. And if you park overnight in an offstreet car park it likely will cost you another £10, or more, that makes the room price unfavourable compared to other places. The traffic wardens don't waste one minute, they are out on the dot at 7.30 am looking to dole out tickets, we had to park some way out and was stressful after a busy day. had to leave my partner at a didgy street corner near the old car park entrance, the one way road systems in Leicester are horrendours too, where they got gat hassled by these druggies and take the bags in up to the room, them park and walk back miles to this hotel. You may as well stay a few miles out of Leicester where the hotel will have free car parking, much less hassle.
We had an absolutely wonderful experience at The City Rooms — from start to finish everything was flawless. The team was incredibly accommodating to our needs and budget for a smaller wedding party, making us feel valued and supported at every step. Our wedding coordinator, Georgiana, was enthusiastic, organised and genuinely excited for us; she made planning simple and stress-free. The food, prepared by chef Matt, was superb — he listened to our requests and happily adjusted dishes to suit our preferences, and the result was delicious and beautifully presented. Highly recommended for an attentive, flexible venue with outstanding service and cuisine.
We got married here at the end of September and it was so lovely! The food was excellent (we went for the Asian menu) and our guests still rave about it. The staff were all great and very accommodating. The ballroom looked beautiful. Rachel who was our organiser was great.
What a gem of a find x location amazing rooms massive beautiful building would deffo stay again
Extra check out time
Better hygiene but over all good
Excellent instructions on how to enter the City Rooms and your bedroom. Lovely room and bathroom, plus excellent facilities and provisions ie fridge, kettle, coffee maker, tea, coffee, milk etc.
Fantastic location, a minute walk from the gig I was attending, especially being alone.
Overall, excellent value for how much it cost to spend a night at The City Rooms.
Would highly recommend.
The only downside was the workmen starting at 7am in the car park after a late night out, but that will be temporary anyway, so not really a big issue.
Check in was a little disorganized, but the staff was really lovely and attentitve in dealing with it!
