Wensleydale pub and hotel in a great location in this picturesque village.
As a pub,the fifteenth century inn works well with a choice of good beers. As a hotel, it's a disaster with very shabby ,cold rooms poorly furnished and with many defects.
I can make allowances for the age of the property and the effects of the storm but the lack of basic maintenance and absence of customer focus is appalling. The heating system is capable but needs to be available 24 hours in rooms with no insulation and draughty windows. The attitude of the management team is defensive rather than accepting responsibility and correcting or fixing what is wrong/broken. Learn from my bad mistake and avoid this hotel.
Unique building (very old), very nice staff! Good bar.
Breakfast was nice
A lovely old hotel with good food and cosy rooms. Very pet-friendly, although dogs aren't allowed in the breakfast room. I'd certainly love to stay here again.
The place is an old pub and whilst it is a little tired decor wise, this was clear from the pictures online. We had a request which wasn't passed on to the hotel, but the staff were so friendly and accommodating that it wasn't a problem. Location is lovely a quiet dales village with lovely views. Stayed one night and we both slept well. Some general maintenance of the premises wouldn't go amiss, and I would suggest a small information pack could be provided on the rooms for future guests.
When we arrived the room had been double booked, Expedias fault, i would never ever book through them again, worst booking company i have come across and still trying to get my money back
The hotel is old which means the toilets don’t flush properly, the shower has no power and the water is lukewarm. There is no soundproofing therefore you can hear the people in the next room as if they were in your room.
The food is good, however they do not have a children’s menu.
The staff were wonderfully friendly but especially the lovely cleaning lady who went all the way back to her home to get me a razor. I’d left mine behind and had to go to a wedding.
No showering facilities in the room I booked only a bath for which I was unaware of at the time. I sustained a broken back in 2011, so was unable to use the bath. Thankfully, on the 2nd last day we quickly used a shower in a vacant room with the landlord's permission. Staff are great along with the 1445 ambiance of the Inn.
Booked 6 rooms, only 5 available, temporary manager and her pet dogs staying in the other one. Disappointing stay with no food available after 7pm, in the evening, as we arrived at 7.15pm (I have made at least 10 attempts to to confirm the timings of the restaurant in the previous week, but no one answered the phone) . A shame because it is such a beautiful area. We were all very tired after a long day walking for charity and this was not appreciated. Clean with comfortable beds though.
This is a very old building, in a beautiful little village. We shared a quadruple room as we had a three year old with us. Two of the beds were really comfy but the third had springs sticking through, so we gave that one a miss. Breakfast, which we wern't expecting, was really good with a selection of toasts and cereals and then a choice of hot food, Lovely friendly staff. Only downside was the bedroom windows, which wouldn't open and the weather was really hot. We had a fan which helped.
fab
Friendly and welcoming staff. 4 poster bed. Lovely breakfast.
Really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Freindly staff, a great pub with fine real ale, nice food and comfortable room.
Horrific experience! We arrived in a foreign country, excited to check in, only to be met with a disaster. They told us at check-in that our room was unavailable because a ceiling had fallen in (we had 2 rooms booked) All other rooms were already book. (What happened to our 2nd room?)
The front desk said there was nothing they could do - now we had to search for a new hotel with 3 children!
To top it off, at our new hotel, we met two other families who had been given the exact same excuse! Turns out, this place is just overbooking and kicking people to the curb at 7 PM. Avoid this hotel at all costs unless you enjoy being stranded.
Great central location; ideal for touring. The staff were friendly and overall good value for money. However the bedrooms were tired and needed an uplift. Our biggest criticism were that bedroom windows could not be opened (locked and painted shut). On what was the hottest days of the year so far there was little or no ventilation.
Had a lovely stay at hotel, they were very friendly and helpful. Would stay again!
Nice stay, room clean. Could do with a welcome pack with menu and times food is served. Ate at venue food good basic pub grub.
It was really good. The couple running it were really nice and helpful. Room a bit basic but.nice comfy bed and lovely cotton sheets and towels. They have only been there 6 weeks so early days yet. I think they have plans and have taken on a big project. Good luck to them both.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful
But the hotel was run down , shabby and unclean
A good clean on everything would not go amiss
The toilet seat was lose , no toilet rolls in the downstairs toilets, our bathroom/ toilet was dirty and not very well kitted out
The room was adequate but again it needed a good clean and everything was abit worn and shabby looking
The kettle worked but cups etc were dirty and stained
A good thing , the bed looked lumpy and uncomfortable but was surprisingly very comfortable
The breakfast table and cutlery was dirty
But surprisingly the food was quite good
Unfortunately we could not stay the days we had booked , after ONE night we decided to checkout , I would therefore ask for a refund as the amount we paid per night was an absolute disgrace , regarding the state of the hotel / pub
I think I would only recommend this for the food , but then just barely , it’s ok if you clean your cutlery beforehand
I think the owners of said establishment if they can , should try and update everything spending cash on and in the premises and then hire a good set of cleaners as it is a large hotel / pub
