Privacy, peace and quiet
The feeling of being a guest in a private home
Gorgeous pool and verandah - both great spots to relax and observe nature
Helpful staff
Amazing food - best we had on our trip
We just wish we had stayed more than one night.
Property looked nice online
Property couldn't be bothered to respond to messages for a month
Water damaged and big smell of mold in our room. Could not stay there so hotel helped us arrange another stay. Regretfully they did not even refund us

Best place I ever visited - the house, the view, the food, the pool.
We loved every single moment at the planters house!
This is the most magical place I’ve ever stayed in, atop a mountain, surrounded by tea plantations, nature, pure tranquility. We extended our stay to 3 nights but I could have stayed there much much longer. This is such a perfect place to unwind and recharge, breathe in the cool mountain air and be looked after by a team of truly lovely people who work there.
Things to keep in mind:
- the property is only reachable by the shuttle they provide. It’s a 40min drive up steep hills and rocky roads. But don’t worry once you get there you will be greeted by freshly brewed tea from their plantation or a nice local gin.
- if you are looking for hustle and bustle, this place is not for you - planters house is far away from nearby shops and any type of infrastructure. This is a place for nature lovers, who want to slow down, enjoy the peace, the greenery, mountains, fresh air.
- food: there are no shops or restaurants nearby so you will be eating onsite. Food is cooked from fresh every day and they have several choices, both western and Sri Lankan, and it is truly delicious.
- there are beautiful hikes you can do from the hotel and if you are adventurous enough you can walk 7.4km to Liptons seat, otherwise the driver will take you up there with the 4x4.
- Try and stay there at least 3 night for the full relaxing experience.
Planters House was fantastic! The team were all so lovely and welcoming, and the views are honestly to die for. Being located up in the mountains, surrounded by nothing but tea, was just beautiful and so peaceful. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant, instead you order what you want at what time you want it, which is such a unique experience. As others have mentioned, the hotel is a Jeep-ride up a steep mountain which adds to the experience and sense of adventure. The hotel is a little rough around the edges and not as polished as the pictures, but for us this added to the charm.
Condition of the hotel was very poor; dirty rooms and damaged bed / bathroom. Food was appalling, especially the breakfast.
Incredibly attentive staff and such a special stay. Wish it had been longer! The perfect place to relax, recharge and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Make sure you allow for ample time for Lipton’s Seat hike and it’s a great idea to bring school supplies, snacks, etc. for the children in the villages on your way up.
Never have I had to ride 45 minutes up into a tea plantation to get to a hotel but it made it all the more special. Staff lovely if not a little unqualified but it adds to the charm of this colonial Plantation house Fantastic infinity pool, amazing birds and sounds, views to die for, comfy period bedrooms with its history oozing from every corner
Ought to be all inclusive as frankly once there one isn’t going anywhere. Bring a good book and indulge
Great hotel in every sense - building, surrounds, staff, food and surroundings.
This was our first trip to Sri Lanka and after travelling many places was our favourite! So many good things to say, so little space! Try it out!
